• Husqvarna Motorcycles Made In Sweden - About 1988 and older

  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

afaik ...the84 LC's were the first bikes to go to 28.5 degrees rake over the 30 degrees of the earlier (desert orientated) bikes

Another way to do this would be to use a set of Aftermarket Triple Clamps to change the Steering Head angle. Except I doubt the Aftermarket is going to jump in thinking they are going to have many sales. However since putting modern forks is somewhat popular for our bikes that would also mean that a set of Triples intended for a more modern bike could also be used. I have a 2000 KTM 250 that has a set of Billet Triples but they are not marked as to what the Rake change is if any at all. But I'm sure they would bolt right on, as long as You were using the correct diameter Fork Tubes. And what the heck why not machine donuts to make them work with our Forks. Maybe welding wasn't so bad after all.

Triple clamps with 5mm less offset would make for sharper steering. Then you have to do the research to find them

I have found no significant difference in offset between anything between 1982 and 1986 in my triple clamp collection. Do you actually have a distance difference recorded? My inspection was overlaying top clamps and comparing the distance between the stem and tube centers.

I don't see a difference in my sets from 81-84. It's 1985 and newer... The clamps I have from the single shock'ers have more offset.

It has been proven on a XT500 French trials conversion that using straight leg forks in offset fork triples(offset changed from 60mm to 30mm) resulted in trials caliber handling that was test ridden by Mick Andrews and met his approval. No frame cuts utilized.

I was wrong about the effect direction of trail but the fact remains that less triple offset will sharpen the steering capability.
