• Husqvarna Motorcycles Made In Sweden - About 1988 and older

  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Unfortunately there are no carburetor settings that are a one size fits all, regarding your location and the type of bike. If you are serious about creating a well tuned carburetor then its best to determine jetting based on the motorcycle and your location. It takes time, patience, and an investment in a variety of jets but the reward is a bike running at peak horsepower without the threat of engine damage when competing. The web links below will take you to documentation explaining how to tune the Mikuni VM carburetor that came on your sons Husky.

Download the MK-ML Workshop Manual. For an overview on carb tuning reference the carburetor section.

A more comprehensive tuning manual can be obtained by searching the web for "mikuni VM super tuning manual". In your results you'll find a link that will download the Mikuni VM Super Tuning Guide, it was created by the Mikuni corporation. I highly recommend this manual. Let us know how it goes and how your son does this coming February.

Impossible for anyone to tell you the correct jetting. You jetting requirements will change from what is needed in the morning, afternoon and evening depending on weather conditions and your fuel mix. The jetting will be even more critical due to you will be running flat out on the beach in 6th gear. Probably the safest jetting will be the factory jetting to start with. But even then the corrected altitude can be well below sea level and require even richer jetting than the factory jetting. You have time to do some testing.

have you considered a Lectron or something simile like Smart Carb?
these are altitude compensating and I had]d success with one in the past, riding from 3500' to 8000'

Might I add that air leaks can seize an engine running at wide open throttle. It would be worth doing a leak down test first as air leaks can worsen in competition, which will have an effect on jetting. Nothing other than an injury can ruin a great race day like seizing up. Speaking from personal experience in 1977 while racing my 390CR :banghead: ouch, ouch, ouch.....
