• Husqvarna Motorcycles Made In Sweden - About 1988 and older

  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

86 / 88 CR / WR 250 cylinder liner compatibility

A four pointer is overall hot? water pump impellor hasn't spun on the shaft? ha4rd to start could be a loose ign? few things to look for.
Make sure your happy you have found the cause as it will just happen again.....

a common problem on those was the rubber intake manifold
the repair was a rubber adapter and an aluminum intake, George at UpTite made these
what was the color of the plug?

The 87 & 88 have the longer stroke 70.8mm with a 66.5mm bore. Yes the WR also has exactly the same liner as the CR. I have just swapped them over and they are identical. Other than having no power valve
Interesting,I know in the US the 87 WR is the std. 69.5 bore.Would like to try to find one of those none valved wr cylinders for a project.

Thanks guys, I have now managed to purchase a couple of 88 barrels one with a power valve and one without, the liners are identical even with the power valve which surprised me no end.

Very lucky to find one let alone two as there were only a few hundred manufactured in 88.

Now to work out why it seized – a classic four point seizer, so it got a bit hot. The plug was correct and as far as I know the carb is stock, maybe the water pump failed? But it didn’t lose a drop of water.

However the bike was a pain to start earlier that day as I had to bump it off initially. I wonder if there in is the clue.

if you are referring to the 350 CR250 that is correct, seems most of them are scrapped out at this point
the 87 88 WR appeared to be a typical build, even though as a brand they were on the ropes
curious of the 88 CR cylinder, is the power valve intact, is the linkage all there?
the 87 CR cylinder is an XC cylinder with a power valve added

There was nothing in the CR power valve aperture, I think they were removed when faulty and simply binned. The Cylinder came from Charlie Preston here in the UK, he might have another? The WR cylinder came off EBay in the US for $9, not measured the bore yet as its still en route to the UK.

thanks for the reply, as I have one of these I am always curious, mine is original with the tires from Husqvarna on it, there were no tire iron marks, I had to replace the front tire due to the knobs fell off, the rear still has never been off the rim, possibly the same air original, not saying I know this,, just does not leak
I keep my eyes open for parts due to the rarity and no parts to buy from the factory, have yet to see spares floating around anywhere

There is one currently on ebay.com 171115305667 - That's about what I paid for my WR top end. Not sure if it has the power valve installed or not though. Obviously I have a spare cylinder but no liner.
