• Husqvarna Motorcycles Made In Sweden - About 1988 and older

  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

86 WR400 review

Flush out the cooling system completely and fill with the premix coolant I mentioned a few posts ago. Otherwise you will be starting the process all over again

Your case was not as bad as the mag cover on my 85 400WRX . I repaired mine with JB Weld inside and out. Also had to remachine the seal pocket into the JB Weld. It machines well too. Do not toss your cover as it appears to be an otherwise non-marred cover like mine was. Repair it and keep it for a spare

have a look at my post on the vintage resto section, i repaired the case with epoxy and milled and drilled. all looks good. i also ran a small earth lead from my radiator to the frame in case this reduces the issue.

Hi Kelly ,
Read your writeup and thanks.
I'm intrested for one of these vintage left kickers WR 400 1986 , I was able to locate one locally fully stock and in fully working condition
will go see it this weekend , guy is a collector has many old bikes such as Maico , Moto Villa , bultaco etc.....

Anything I should look out for , had these bikes any problems ??? What would be an even proper price ???
I just want her for a keeper and some short rides then in she will go......

Thanks
Petros

Cracked case right behind the kick starter is a common issue. Other than that just the general stuff i think. Maybe someone with more experience with these will chime in. Good luck.

Snap it up, that looks sweet!!!

I'm starting to fall in love with this vintage bike ....... It's all the time on my mind .........work office , home , every where and imagine I have'nt seen it in flesh yet.....
Will ofcourse this weekend.

Just a quick question ,
what would be a proper price ????
as per seller info it is completely stock , in fully working condition , six days limited edition with upside down forks , even stock speedo which is rare to find he said. He is a collector though and will not reason easily.

He is asking 2000 euro = 2500 $ is that a reasonable price or should I try to lower the price , but on the other side do want to loose it also.

Petros

I cant help you on price as I have no idea what stuff goes for in your corner of the world. That said $2500 does not seem that far off. Seems slightly high. All that said I think you will be surprised by the performance. A well setup one can hang with modern bikes surprisingly well. That motor is a gem of functionality.

Cool thread. Did 3 years of racing enduros on an '86 400 back in the day
Ended up with kx 125 forks on the front- light years better.
Loved the drum brake- lives forever. [I now have a bucket of torched disc brake pads from my wr250.]
Had to cut a little notch on the inside face of the 400 clutch pressure plate to keep it consistent.
Rode my '94 wxe today while the wr's are getting the winter rebuild.
