• Husqvarna Motorcycles Made In Sweden - About 1988 and older

  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

87 510 cam chain ?s

The manual reefers to a max length as to when its time to replace.
Not sure about the amount of rollers.

Ok thanks! I bought a 5 meter length SKF-chain and some master links. I'll measure up slightly less than 773,5mm.

I do not like masterlinks on a cam chain. I cut to length and stake a solid link. A world of woe occurs when a cam chain master link fails

I understand that view. But I'll rely on the info from an expert engine builder that it's ok; Claes Halvardsson of Halvards Motor.
He's built engines for loads of pro's like Anders Eriksson, seven time world champ in enduro, and his own 414cc destroked 510 engine which he revs to 11500.
Having said that I bet my 510 will spit the cam chain first time I take it past idle... ,touch wood...

Claes is a great guy. I bought an NOS tank for my 87 510 from him a few years ago. Pure luck I stumbled on his website when googling for a tank! Tell him hi from down under!

Sure! I talked to him a couple of weeks back as he was putting a new rod kit in my 510 crank.
He is going to retire in January at 75 yo, closing the bussiness down. But he'll still keep doing engine work he said.

Don't think he has any info out on the www but I'll mail him and see if he can provide some.

Is there anywhere we can read more info on this 414 motor? Cheers

Here's the info I got from Claes re. the 414 cc. (It's an air cooled 510 to start with)

"Crank is from a TE 410 1995
Piston hi-comp. TE400, about 13:1
Camshaft TC570
Balanced crank

Bench ran it up to 11500 rpm at which the inlet valves springs did not manage more and float. It makes 44 hp on the rear wheel.

On the start grid I held it wide open throttle until valves floated and dumped the clutch when gate fell."
