• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

A open and sincere apology to everyone for my extended absence

Ok... I now have correctly working phone service... needed to switch from ATT to Verizon. First time I've had reliable phone service in 8 months.
That's what happens when you move out into the middle of nowhere. :D

BTW welcome back, even though you've already been "back" for a month. (I just now noticed it)

Thanks for the welcome back :)

It's always something... thought I had the phone system figured out, but after talking with several people on the phone yesterday... the audio quality is completely unacceptable at higher volumes. Now off to town to locate a headset of some type.

bluetooth headsets generally have inferior audio quality.

Wired headsets are a little better, but holding the phone in your hand and talking into it usually provides the best sound quality for the listener on the other end.

So I discovered... I even went to the Apple store and tried out uber expensive headphones which had microphones. Fantastic sound quality when listening to music on an iPod, but terrible when connected to my phone. Not just my phone, even the iPhone did not sound good.

Finally I have reasonable internet access!

It was taking between 30 seconds and several minutes to navigate CafeHusky depending on how many pictures there were to view - even reading/writing emails was quite painful.

Yay!!! :applause:

As of yesterday morning, life became much better, and the real reason for my issues has been permanently taken care of. It was an easy to fix problem, once the problem was found - but finding the problem took a while.

By the end of yesterday, I had accomplished more than I usually accomplish in an entire month.

I would be happy to talk about it around a campfire sometime if anyone wants.

Unsticking thread now...

I'm glad you solved a frustrating long term problem. I'm sure it's quite a relief.

I just fixed a long term frustration myself and it sure is a load off my back.
