• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

What does everyone have in their toolboxes mounted to the bike? I'm thinking of putting one together and mounting it to my skid plate, but I don't want to make one that's got more than I need.

By more than I need, I mean to say I don't want Torx, Hex, Alan sizes that aren't needed on the bike.

How concise/ lightweight of a toolkit can you make to mount onto the bike? I know the OEM toolkit has a few useful bits, but mostly stuff for doing the absolute basics.

Here's what I've put together:

Torx bits (although Im unsure what sizes the bike does not need, What have you guys got?)
Alan bits (same, what do you guys have?)
Sockets 5-14mm(need anything else?)
Adjustable wrench
OEM toolkit (Alan/Torx keys, shock tool, Phillips driver)
1/4&3/4 drive ratchet
Assorted extensions/adapters
Pliers (with dikes, and needlenose)
Zip Ties
Electrical Tape

What have I missed?

I have all my tools stashed in a Kriega US-5.
It includes everything you listed with a few additions:
  • 3x 28mm tyre irons
  • Motion Pro T6 hex/tyre iron combo with a bit driver and 3/8 to 1/4 adapter
  • Sockets for front and rear wheel nut
  • Hand pump that also takes CO2 cartridges
  • A 1x1m old bed sheet that I use on road side repairs to put my tools and bits that come of the bike on. Keeps them clean and keeps me from having to look for bolts and nuts in the grass or mud.
  • A 14mm (If i recall correctly) allan bit for getting to the crank shaft
  • A 2.5m plastic hose for siphoning fuel
  • a 2-piece T-handle that can be dismantled to save space and can be used as extensions for the Motion Pro T6

It's not bad but it sure as hell is slow. It took 35 days to get a set of grip puppies sent here from your fair nation.

Hi Charlie, I think in general customer services in the USA is way better than it is here.
Perhaps we are just to soft and don't complain enough here.

Bringing this back up.

I'm going to go through the bike tonight/tomorrow, and find what specific sizes I'll need. I'm putting my kit together, so I'll buy duplicates of all the tools, so I can leave the others in my tool box for the other bikes.

Torx bits - T25, T30, T45, T50
Allen keys - 4mm, 5mm
Standard hex - 24mm

And, I was at Cycle Gear last night, buying the 2nd wrong visor for my helmet in 2 days after breaking mine in an unfortunate incident involving bleeding the brakes. That's $70 spent for my dad's helmet, and not mine, but I digress. On the sale rack next to the register was this compressor on sale for $19.99. I picked one up, and it looks like it could be a decent, and cheap unit. Packs fairly small in it's own bag. Figured it could pay for it self as I probably won't care to do anything after airing up with my MTB frame pump, I usually take.
