  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Advice on gearing '09 TXC 250

JPinNC

Husqvarna
AA Class
Time for a new front/rear sprocket and chain, also need to get a new chain guide, as my OEM one is shot, probably a bit bent as well because I have a scroll-mark around the rear sprocket from the chain guide.

I plan to get a BRP chain guide. Ideally I would like to go to a 52 rear sprocket, but I understand the 52 may accelerate my chain guide wear considerably, so I am thinking about going down one tooth in the front and changing to a 48 rear sprocket. I just want a little lower gearing for the steep/slow trails we have around here. What do you Husky guys/gals think???

i am running 12/50 for around here. lots of rocks, hills and tight stuff to tackle. other guys around here are running 13/52. i really like my gearing, a ton better than the stock 13/47.

edit: sorry, just saw that you were asking about a 250. the gearing i have is for a te510. still is great gearing for around my parts though.

oops, i said i used 15/51 in my previous post.meant 13/51.this was on my 2008 txc 250.that bike had rather poor slow speed throttle response from new plus i think the pilot jet was rich.i think better throttle response would have made my gearing selection less critical.i tried all kinds of things but the low end bog on that bike was a dissapointment.i think the R and D adj leak jet was the only thing i did that helped .i really liked that bike except for the bog and the forks were a bit harsh.dan

Thanks! Fortunately my jetting is spot on. Great throttle response everywhere. I need just a little lower gearing for some of the steeper tighter sections on the trails that I ride. The 13/51 might be just right. Wasn't sure if I would notice much change over the 13/50 stock, but as I understand the 52 has not worked well for some because they chewed through their chain guide too fast. Dan, did you have any problems with the 51 wearing your chain guide excessively?

i know not the same but i had to drop 1 tooth uip front on my 450 txc for riding my mx track. it was doable stock but wasnt nearly as good. havent had it back on the trails since though.

I've been pretty happy with a 48 on the back. I put a 12 on the front for tight trails, a 13 for almost everywhere else, and a 15 for long fire road type rides (or commuting :)).
