• Husqvarna Motorcycles Made In Sweden - About 1988 and older

  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Pro Class
Been thinking about setting up a bike for oldies MX. At this point... just thinking, learning. Looking at classes, rules, bike eligibility and so on. It's gotta be a husky, so here's what I'm finding:

Vintage/Sportsman: Being '74 and older means I'll need (ok, want) a 250 Mag... more $$$ than I'm interested in at this time.

Post-vintage/Historic: Might be about right for me. AHRMA rule book says '75-'76 husky and '77's if limited to 9" travel. Sounds good. Easy to find, not too expensive.

On the other hand, not really interested in running my 430 in the looooong travel classes. Probably have to ride pretty hard just to keep up in a class of 12" bikes? Looking for something more laid back. Wanna enjoy the old days, wanna ride my scooter, and it's gotta be a husky.

So, what should I build?

When I get my 84 WR250 running again soon I'm going to start on a 72 CR400 project. Doubt I'll ever race it but it'll look cool. I watched the EVO guys, too fast for me! Scott

You don't have to run a "mag". Remember, it's the rider not the bike. Just find a 72 or 73 CR250 or CR400. Or you can run a 75 WR400 too. Same rolling chassis as the 74 mag, but with the square barrel 400 motor.

I've got a 74 hybrid. It's a 250 mag roller, with a cylinder off a 75 360 and a six speed trans. So I run the open class.

I had a 78 CR250 also, but sold it, because I like rider the older bike better.

No, that's a fair question. We've all been Husky fans for differing lengths of time.

Husky made a big step in 1974 with a much improved CR250 including a new lighter engine with magnesium cases... the Mag. Highly sought after for restorations and vintage racing. Usually $$$.

Ahrma has a good website, if you want to ride slower, then just ride in the
back of the pack. You'll need a 78 or older Husky to race in the non-Evo
class, if i remember correctly. A 1978 250CR is probably the easiest
the bike to race, if your just starting out. I prefer the EVO class
with my 82 430CR, as i like the longer suspension, but go out and
race , just watch out it's additive :busted:.
