  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Any difference between 2013 TXC250 and TXC310 exhaust?

J_H we have the same bike and I also want more low end.

I have considered the fmf pipe for the same reasons but I have always been told it will only add to the mid and top without sacrificing the low end.

If you find any large gains let me know!

So far I have an open map exhaust and fmf silencer with a quiet
insert and removed thermostat. Stock motor other wise.

Needs more low end. Mid and top is fine.

Definitely will. This is an awesome bike, but I am probably using this bike outside of its intended purpose: extremely twisty, nasty steep single track type riding. 2 stroke bikes just do a lot better here.
This is my first real motorcycle I have owned in years (I got this because it was such a great deal and couldn't pass it up). If anything, my upper body strength has increased drastically from riding this bike where I have been riding it. Compare with my 150 lb e-bike, lifting this thing up after dumping it up-side down in a ravine is a b*tch!
After the first few rides, I was convinced that I was going to get rid of this in favor of a much lighter KTM xc or Beta 2 stroke bike, or even the new KTM freeride 250 if it ever really does come here to the US. But, after I rode the Husky more and more, built up skill, strength and endurance, and just got used to the beast, I realize how good this bike is, but like most of us here on this forum, we just want a little more out of their machine.

There are just those instances where you come around an up-hill corner and there is a huge log waiting for you. For the most part I have been able to clear tricky spots like this one the bike, but that extra low end is really desired.

I'll know in about a week if this $200 experiment is more than just "hot air".

Cheers

OK, so I got the parts, and fit was no issue at all on the TXC250.
The Q4 silencer was on a 2-3 month back order so I went with the power core silencer instead. I just installed it the other night, and all I have done so far on the bike since the pipe and silencer were installed is ride up and down my driveway.

First impression (non-scientific):
Noise: The bike seems pretty quiet (even without the silent insert on the silencer), perhaps a bit less noisy than stock
Power: maybe a bit more low-end, but I think definitely it seems to come to life in the mid range.

Going for a ride on Green Mountain today, so more to follow...

So J_H, Whats the verdict. Was the FMF header pipe a worth while investment on the TXC 250R or is is smoke in mirrors? Been contimplating buying one for some time.

OK, since I changed both the header pipe and the silencer at the same time it is hard to say how much the header pipe alone adds to the performance.

I went for 2 rides over the weekend. Saturday I ran the silencer as it comes from FMF, without the silent insert, and Sunday I rode it with the silent insert installed.

In both conditions, I am feeling a bit more low end and definitely more mid-range power. The silent insert takes a bit of that power away though, but still seems better than stock. Noise-wise, without the silent insert, it definitely has that "poppy" sound.

That little bit extra low end got me out of trouble quite a few times. No crazy amount of power and torque gain, but in one situation it was enough to lift the front end of the bike up when going off a big, nasty drop off a root ledge into a dry creek bed at a very slow speed. That situation alone was enough to make me feel glad I added these parts to the bike. The situation would have been disastrous if I wasn't able to lift the front end as I made that drop.

In addition, both days on the trail, a lot of the time I was able to ride a gear higher than I usually would with the stock setup.

Most of the time I'll probably ride without the silent insert since it does have a bit more power like that, and use the silent insert when I am riding around my property so not to piss off the neighbors too much.

All in all, I'm happy with it.

So would the header and slip on fit the redhead tc250 then? I wonder if it's a bigger upgrade over the stock Akro system.

There are three options I am aware in south jersey:

1) Anyone can go to Atco dragway to the speedshop and buy fuel. They are a standalone business open during the day and non racing hours. You can enter the first open gate during the day hours. My only advice is to call first and make sure they are going to be there. You can't go by their posted hours as they are erratic. Bring your own jug. I buy 5 gallons at a time. If you have a 2 stroke you want to buy C12, if you have a 4 stroke, I would suggest MS103. I would rather buy MS 101, but they don't sell it.

2) You can buy 5 gallons of VP fuels at Mt. Holly Kawasaki in Vincetown. They stock many VP fuels and sell them in 5 gallon cans. For my four stroke I bought T4 here at $65 for 5 gallons.

3) There is a VP distribution center in Newark, DE that sells to the public (never bought from them).

Just a few things that I have learned

  • Both T4 and MS103 are oxygenated and thus will create more power. So while you are getting added protection from the additional octane, its the fact that they are oxygenated which makes more power.
  • T4 seems to make the most power (especially bottom end) run strait in my 4 stroke, but once you cut it with pump gas it doesn't work nearly as well. So I run this fuel strait, cutting it is a waste of your time and money. It is expensive at $13 gallon.
  • MS103 (which is available at Atco) makes great smooth consistent noticeable power gains throughout the RPM range, but is still expensive. With MS103 I can cut it 50/50 and therefore get 10 gallons of gas from 5 gallons of race fuel, thereby reducing my overall costs. IMPORTANT!!! I do not recommend running this fuel strait, it has too much octane and burns too slow strait, which creates a lean condition in stock bikes. When cut 50/50 or even a little less, it works fantastic. Great throttle response and improved power. This is my current fuel choice.
  • C12 is leaded. Theoretically if you do not have an 02 sensor on your bike, you can run this fuel, but I give you a couple warnings. C12 has a very high octane rating and unless you have a worked motor, it needs to be cut with pump gas (preferably regular). I tried this in my 2013 TXC310R and after a couple tanks my injector went bad. Not sure if it is related to the lead factor or not. Even though my bike does not have an 02 sensor, the manual clearly says unleaded fuel only. I didn't notice as much power gain (if any) compared to T4 or MS103, so I stopped using it.

I know there are many fuels out there, but because of cost and availability I have narrowed it down to T4 or MS103. This is what I have found to be true (for me) over the past couple years. Can you run pump gas....ABSOLUTELY without issue. I have found that running either T4 or mixing MS103 has made a significant difference in my bike, ESPECIALLY on the bottom, I can lug 3rd gear and have tremendous torque down low which transitions into the powerband without any hesitation. When I run on pump gas I have to run the bike a lower gear to stay in the power band, the bottom is too soft and useless. With race gas, I put it in 3rd and it just pulls through everything.

After running race gas all summer, I tried strait pump gas once and it was like a completely different bike. To the point that I didn't enjoy riding it nearly as much.

Thank you! I just posted a question about race fuel in a fuel injected bike and this sums it up pretty much, do you know anything about VP 4.4? Thanks Again
