• Husqvarna Motorcycles Made In Sweden - About 1988 and older

  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

any difference between XC and WR rear Ohlins shocks?

Need some help.
I have both XC and WR - single Ohlins shock bikes now.
I'm rebuilding a XC shock right now and have a spare Ohlins shock I could use some parts off.
I don't want to mix up XC and WR shocks.

Since XC and WR have different rear suspension travel I would expect different length rear shocks or different linkage parts.

Where are the differences in the rear suspension?

They have different shock part numbers but... are they really different other than the spring rate? Can I interchange rear shock parts?
Thanks.

the XC has longer travel and on the 87 some WR shocks had a spacer to shorten the travel, if that was the case then removing it gave you the VX CR shock
the replacement shafts are shorter for the WR
there is no other difference

Thanks, 2premo.
Then either an internal spacer or shorter shaft for the WR shock, otherwise the shocks are interchangeable.
So, could a XC shock be used in a WR bike but not a WR shock in a XC bike?

Its an internal spacer, the twin shock WRs have one also, they had the same shock as a CR/XC with an internal spacer.

Thanks. The spacer would cause the shock overall length to be shorter.... so, a shorter shock would be a WR shock.

Dave,
I am assuming you are talking about the 1987 shocks. If so then the WR shock will have the part number HA6220 stamped in the top of the shock body head and the CR/XC125/CR250 will have the number HA6202 and the CR/XC430-500 will have the number HA6212. They both use a spacer inside to adjust the travel, just the WR uses a thicker spacer.
Hope this helps

Marty,
This is a big help.
Sorry, yes... talking about the 1987-1988 single shock. Thanks for the Ohlins part #'s.
I noticed the different #'s on my shocks, but didn't know how to match part # to a bike model.

By the way, Dave Pratt told me you are sending him a nickel-plated 430 frame. He said he used to ride with the original owner.
I think he is going to upgrade one of his 430's.
Should be cool looking.
Dave

so I never looked and issued they were the same shock and just used a different spring on my 430 and 500 vs the 250
I will look one of these days out of curiosity
so what was the difference???

Yea, cool story and bit a history with that nickel plated frame and Dave Pratt and his riding/racing buddys. It will be good to see Dave put it together. He has the matching rear subframe to go with it.

Dave helps me out with parts and technical advice on my Huskys. It's fun to visit his shop and talk about Huskys, Corvettes, etc.
