  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

just wondering how it felt in the tight stuff? thinking about dropping to a 12t to move the powerband a little lower. never going to ride this on the street

hip

12T in the front would serve better in the tight stuff.

A lot of riders go 2T larger in the back.

A little easier on the chain, but a little harder on the wallet.

I run 13-49 on my 510.

i hear dropping 1 on the front is like adding 3 on the rear

husky parts book goes up to 50t but supersprox.com is listing a 52 :applause:

I thought my TE 250 was pretty nice stock 13/50. It pulled so smooth off the bottom. Changed it to a 14 as I'm mostly riding desert stuff and it's fine there.

12/50 would be fun for real low speed stuff certainly. Don't know that I've seen anyone do it.

I'm currently running 13/52 on my 08 TE250. I do ride it on the streets but my speeds are no greater than about 35 mph. Acceleration is great but really hampers top speed and you shift through all six gears rather quickly.

I race enduros and hare scrambles. Fairly tight here.

I run 12-50 on my TXC250 and love it.....but I rarely ever get to 4th or 5th gear.

I put a 12T on mine a few years ago and didnt like it. It seemed like I was doing a tap dance on my shifter when riding it.

I like 13/51 on a 250. It doesnt make a huge difference but does help with the roll-on power a bit.

I just put 13/51 on my 310 and I am not sure that I like it or not. I think I am going to go back to a 50T and compare again.

Mine's an 06' and I've used a 12t. In the really tight nasty stuff it's great. As soon as it opens up you run out of gears real quick. I'd love it if first was that low with the stock 13/50. Then you would have a creeper/granny get off and run alongside gear and nice spread from 2nd through 6th.

Later,

Mike

im thinking just raise the rear sprocket 1 or 2 teeth just to get that extra oomph down low. right now it takes to long to climb in 2nd and 3rd. you have to wait for the power to climb

we shall see, ill order tonight

I ran a 52T on the rear of my TE 250 and it helped the low end in the tight stuff. I try to stay away from the 12T front sprockets because it kills the chain and it almost eliminates 1st gear.
BTW, switching to a 12T front from a 13-50 stock combo is the equivalent of adding 4 teeth on the rear sprocket. (50/13=3.84 ratio[stock] 50/12=4.16ratio 54/13=4.15ratio).

it acutally ended up being a 52, motorsportz isnt stocking the 51 anymore and i just installed it tonight and ripped around the dirt road a little, feels much better

sunday it will get a full flogging , thanks for the help everyone!

my self I have not changed mine but I am going to go up just 1 on the rear. I have raced my 08 te 250 this year and won the AA class with the stock gearing. First gear is to tall for tight woods and makes it alot of work. I just got this bike good deal, I honestly can say I have been tryingg to get the efi to run more cleanly.

Were you able to use the stock chain with the 13-52 combo?

Mine was too tight with the stock chain. It might have worked, but I didn't want the rear axle almost all the way forward on the adjusters.

The tire rubbed through the mud flap on my son's 09 TE510 when he moved the axle almost all the way forward on the adjusters. I think it barely clears static but the air at 70+ mph may move the flap to hit the tire, but it is hard to tell since both his flap and tire are now worn.
