• Hi everyone,

    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Looking for a ride report from anybody that rode a 17 te250 or 250 xc-w or Beta 250rr. Can not decide which one I want. Thanks for any help.
 
Unfortunately that review is between a 250rr and a tc250 which is the motocross bike which I own a 2012 250sx which I have tried to convert to enduro with no luck. I did get to ride a 16 250rr at a Demo day and really liked it but have not rode 17 te250 or 250xc-w. I would have bought a Beta already if the new KTM,Husky did not have so many big changes. Thanks for posting review and confirming what I thought of 250rr.

I own a 2015 TE250.
Have ridden a 2015 250 xc-w with sx upgrades (in Colorado)
Ridden a 2014 300xc-w
Ridden a 2015 300xc-w
Ridden a 2017 TE300

At lower altitudes, East Coast, not much power differences between the 250 and 300, just revs a bit different.
The 2017 felt like I was up higher in a seating position (sat higher overall, and felt a little more disconnected from the bike) compared to the previous body designs.
the 2017 bikes are beautiful , but I just felt a bit more disconnected from the bike overall.

It is a multi video series on converting an SX. Seemed like they had pretty good luck with a flywheel weight, throttle tube change over, and power valve adjustments.
Not that it would be the same as a TE, but if it is good enough it wont cost 9k to do it....
I have not been on the Beta. Everyone says they are great. The only thing I would feel, at least where I am, is that it would be like I was back on an Italian Husky.
More challenging on the support network, etc...
Being on the ktm/Husky platform has been absolutely fantastic for parts, support, and just how the bikes come apart and go together.
That would steer me towards Husky platform vs Beta, but just my opinion. The network of Beta dealers is certainly better every year, but still not the same.

Thanks for the post NH-JP. I own a 2012 250sx that I have 12 oz flywheel weight and map switch and Kreff power valve adjuster and geared bike way down but still not a good off-road bike and prefer my 2013 wr165 way more off road.

Have a 2017 te 300,also had a 300 Beta . The new 2017 te is the best by far, ,suspension, motor buy the husky ****************************************!!!

you probably should change the head on the sx - or add a thicker base gasket ? or try different needle - they make a big difference - run it richer . An exc cdi as well.

The 165 will always be easier to toss round in tight stiff and singletrack - I had one.

I like my TE 250 2014 and prefer it to the 2014 ktm EXC I rode suspension wise - that is part of the issue with an SX .


Power is very manageable on the TE and I don't think I am at your skill level .

I am looking for more power - just a tad haha.

The 300 may be a better choice for you .
 
I actually want to keep the sx aggresive for motocross and snowbike now and a separate bike for off road. I have tried a 300 and they are to much power for the way I ride which is aggressive and that is why I liked the wr165 but it does have it limitations after awhile but still fun. That is why I liked the Beta it was easy to ride some people might call it weak I called managable power. But I am leaning toward a 17 te250 now from what everybody has been telling me. Thanks for all the help from everybody. I like the way Husky look the best and was a husky guy before they were cool. I would just like to ride one before spending $10000.00 on one.
 
Beta parts support is not a problem. They have a great north American supprt system. Did you know that if you go BYOB they are actually assembled here in the states? Have not ridden, but have sat on both back to back and agree that the Beta feels like an Italian Husky. You're in the Beta and on the Husky If that makes sense. Being in the market for a new bike is a good problem though. One thing that makes it harder is with the new Xplor fork on the TE, you don't need to add the potential cost of the old 4CS rebuild to it anymore.
 
Ive owned a 300rr re, xtrainer and a 390rr in the last 2 years and beta support is way better than im finding with husqvarna!
 
I agree I would love to find a very lightly used bike. Problem is there is not a lot of used 17 Husky Te250, 250XC-W or 16 Beta 250rr around were I live or in Canada really. Guys that buy these bike seem to keep them for couple years and use them. Not like used mx bikes lots of near new one for sale. Thanks for the comments. The reason I want a mellow 250 is so I can ride it like a 165. I was demo riding the Beta 250rr really hard and never felt like it was getting away on me and hope TE250 would feel the same with a little stiffer suspension.
 
Just rode 2017 te250 for first time. All I did was go one size smaller main and pilot jet other than that stock. This bike power wise is the most easy to use 2 stroke I have ever rode. Jetting seems great no bad spot at all and top end rips hard. Bottom I was doing 4 gear starts no problem and putting around in 3 gear no throttle it would not die just keep chugging along pin it and no bog just rolls on power. So far very impressed. It not a 250sx power band which I do not want it a very useable traction getting motor like Beta 250rr I rode but even better I think so far. Did couple wide open shut offs before checking plug and looked great nice tan color. I was riding at only +8c so it will get richer as it warms up but overall very impressed not going to do reeds or Lectron right away if bike runs this good. Not sure why 300 are having so many problems.
