  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Anyone ever had this happen?

Just ruined a SM ride I was looking forward to and I didn't spot it until I brought the bike home and went to check the plug.

Not 100% that this was the problem to begin with as it was stuttering and backfiring beforehand which might have popped it off. I'd just given it an iBeat tune the day before and everything was running sweet.

I've installed it back into place so once my battery is charged up I'll give it a test.

Pretty annoyed I missed the ride though! *sigh*

Funny because as it turns out, one of the other guys on the SM ride had the exact same thing happen! It was 40 degrees here today so that would have been a factor. Now, how to prevent this? It doesn't look as though the throttle body assembly has enough depth to allow a strong clamp. I'll have to get the iBeat out for another tune too seeing as I could have tuned it with it slightly dislodged.

Happened to me on a TE570 and once before on a buddies XR. It's not uncommon. I have seen YZF guys safety wire them to the head.

This is on the carbed bikes yes? Any indication or knowledge of the efi bikes backfiring? I'm tempted to remove the backfire screen as it seems that many of the SMJ riders do that for increased air flow........

Happened to my TE510 but noticed the problem immediately and remedied it. The owners manual lists the clamp/boot as a wear and tear item that should be replaced after x number of hours.

The same thing happened to my '08 SM510, although it was the rear boot as I recall. It ran fine until it died in my driveway as I arrived home. No backfiring or anything. I'd never had it off so assume it wasn't assembled very well by the factory. Hasn't happened again.

Hmm, I'll probably try get a stronger clamp although it looks as though we're expecting more hot days (40+) so I'll probably expect this to happen again, the heat just softens the rubber too much.
