• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Anyone run a Kenda K270 as a dirt only tire?

Yes and I really like that tire. I originally purchased it thinking I would do more road, gravel this summer. I did use it for a couple hundred miles that way and it worked great. Then I had a last minute 7 day riding trip to Colorado. I used that K270, 120/80 x 18 that I already had on my 07 TE 450. I was totally impressed with everything about it. It was rainy, rocky, muddy, hard packed, loose shale rock, big boulders, really everything but sand. Not one chunk or slash. I guess that may partially be due to close spacing but we tore tires up on that trip. I probably rode 400 miles out there. I added a pic thats after another 140 mile gravel, trail day here in MO where it also worked great. I do like a narrow tire for our rocks and its narrow.
I already bought another one for a bike we borrowed for the trip.

My Yellow Lab likes shoes too. lol.... I've been wanting to try the new Moto Z IT Enduro (DOT) tire but haven't heard much
feedback on it.

I'm down with the 270 Kenda on the rear ... If nothing else, no more of that knobby-tire dirt action where sitting on a slope in loose dirt and in 1 revolution the knobby digs a hole straight out from under the back tire and sticks you ... GPNF would probably alot better off if knobby tires were not be allowed on every bike, every day of the yr ... Most if not all the deep holes you see at step-ups out there, are caused by knobbys and a rider hung on that spot...

These are not the best in true muddy conditions when a knobby works about best, but across the entire spectrum of riding in the PNW, these tires are AOK and the cost is a little on the lower side also ...

MotoZ's are great.
Ive had a few on the back of my 950 Lc8.
In the dirt,or sand I love them, and there thick hard use tire with great wear,,,in the dirt.

Me personaly,i didn't like them on the road.Ive had them spinning up over 120mph,etc,etc.They hold up great. But they feel twichey on pavement, and make alot of noise.
For the money I get more life and better feel out of a Terraflex, and there in the same price range.
A lot of guys like them on bigger bikes for Rallymoto and I haven't herd a bad word. But I have herd guys feel the same way I do.For a dual sport tire theres better choices for the money.
I got 2200 miles out of my last rear on a big 100+hp Vtwin. What they'll do on a middle weight bike I cant say.

This is a video of a friend Rally race'n.He was a pro flat tracker, and his comment was the MotoZ's weren't holding up,so he went to a TeraFlex. This is a TeraFlex in the video.Hope it helps alittle.

I used the k270 on my 1982 xl250r with good luck.I just put one on my te630 (rear only) ...yikes !Looking forward to putting a motoZ I/T back on soon as possible!

Ditto everything said in this thread. My TE510 had a fresh set on it (including the front) and I figured I would give them a chance. The rear was actually ok in typical CA terrain, soft dirt/gravel trail/roads/and loose sand, but that front, whoa nelly, horible on the gravel road, no grip at all, horrible in the sand, just plows in and yanked the bike violently to one side or the other. Stay away from the front if you ride loose stuff.

i want something like a trails tire but a little more robust and knob like too. Something int he middle. I cant seem to get a trails tire to last as i always end up tearing them up even though buddy Jake runs them for a million miles without issue. I also dont like that they are so soft (radial) that they are near impossible to ride when flat. Just looking for a trails tires knob blend to try and why I posted here asking about them after seeing one.

So I was liking my Dunlop 803 traction wise but I'm 3 for 3 now destroying a 803 in 500 miles. I just cant get trails tires to last for me. So...

So far I am liking it.

I ran the 5.10x17 and 4.50x17 K270's on my SM610 for a while. Rear was great, but wore fast. Front was not so great... mainly because it was a rear tire (they don't make a front 17" tire). Super cheap tires, so that makes it nice... I currently run a 150x17 Kenda Big Block rear tire and 120x17 TKC80 front tire. Here's a pic when I had the K270's mounted:
