  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Anyone run a Michelin S12 XC rear?

A guy locally has a brand new S12 XC for sale cheap. It's a 130 so a little smaller than the original. Reviews are hard to come by so I wondered if anyone here has run them and liked/disliked them?

I depends on your riding area. If you ride in soft wet dirt, mud, sand and the like the S12 is and awesome tyre. If most of your riding is hard pack with lots of rocks you will shred and rip knobs of it. I haven't used them on my TE610 but have on my RMX and previous DRZ.

I read a little about it, I think I want to try one.

They are my favorite tire for all around mud, rocks and roots. They don't last very long but have good traction. I prefer a low tire pressure (8ish psi in the rear) and a thinner tire (120 width) I've used it on both an XR400 and TE250. For dry rocky conditions I prefer a trials tire on the XR, but haven't tried one on the TE yet. I use an S12 in the front with either rear tire.

The s-12xc is my favorite rear tire. I have used them on all my bikes and have liked them for years. They hook up well on a variety of terrain and I find them very predictable handling wise. They last a fairly long time on my husaberg 450 and still work well when worn. I usually run them at 12 p.s.i. in the rear and prefer the m-12 in the front at 13 p.s.i. The only time that I had one wear fairly quickly was on the rear of a kx250 that had a hard-hitting power-band and seemed to spin any tire that was on it. They are all that I use and I will be putting one on my wr144 soon:thumbsup:!

My last 3 rears have been S12 XC's, love them, great grip even on grass, the corners of the knobbles seem to stay intact longer. No tarmac use as only race.

I agree with most all that. They are great in wet, soft mud conditions and continue to bite even as they wear because of the cupped knob design. If you ride in dry rocky areas maybe not the best tire as they can chunk if you are hard on the gas. I always run s12 rear and m12 front because traction is king here in the mountains.

Yeop! good tires. I primarilly use Michelin S12 tires- the updated S12 xc is even better. I also have ran the 130s intentionally- to add to the turning/flickability in tight stuff. They grip slimy rocks, roots, ruts etc. The xc's last much longer than the originals. They have worked well in dry conditions as well. They have 'chunked' at an acceptable level predictiably in the terrain they are made for (soft) with rocks (smooth/wet/rough/dry) thrown in randomly.

It is the same as a 110, should still work though especially for that price. I have 120's on my 125 and TC250. I don't recommend the m-12 on the rear unless you are riding sand. It gets great bite going straight forward, but lean it over a little of off camber and it is not so good. M-12 front is good.
