  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

ARe the 2014 FE bikes street legal?

They´d have to prove conformity to all the different international environmental regulations and fit the bikes with lights etc that conform to each national road legal system. That was Husky´s problem with parts catalogues for each and every one. It´d mean a much higher volume of sales than could be achieved with the present list of bikes.

Not sure what you are meaning but KTM already has a bunch of plated models and these are virtually the same bikes in white. If husky could do it and sell 6-10K bikes a year I would think it would be super simple for KTM as they already have all the work done. Maybe I misunderstood your post?

I cant stop looking at the new 501. You can plate any bike in Washington so may seriously consider one middle next year and plate the thing

Maybe that's the answer. Why offer the Husky in DS when they already have the KTM? If they really wanted to they could have made the Bergs that became Husky street legal. Keeping the DS customers brand loyal doesn't seem to be very important, at least right now.

Simple, they didn't have TIME. Next year we'll see Huskys with plates. Otherwise would be silliness.

There are states where you can plate anything, Washington is one, make a friend there.

They had years to do it with the Husabergs. I think they are so focused on going back to their roots that they want to return Husky to being an off road only brand.

If they had made the FE line street legal with a plate it would have killed the EXC line.

All business decisions for the VPs and it might be best to forget all that berg angle stuff now ... Bergs were never on the same level in the company make-up as Husky sits now as a somewhat equal to the ktm bikes ...

This all seems like a juggling act for customers, specific customers riding specific ways. ~8,000 current Husky dirt bike buyers .. Out of the ~100,000 current ktm buyers, how many are dirt bike purchasers? 1/2? 50,000 current ktm dirt bike owners as a WAG ... The VPs are gonna have to tread correctly or there seems to be the very real chance to chew into that 50,000 dirt bike buyers quickly into the Husky bucket. This idea may very well be a driving force to make the price of Husky even higher than the other brands they are selling to sort of hold the bikes sales line and test the waters. You gotta remember, all things are open now and unknown (risk). These guys are gonna be glued to these first yrs sales numbers I'd guess and adjust fire as needed.

Yes ... been done for KTM bikes. But anything new, made under the Berg/Husky marque would have to be newly homologated.

.

With linkage, Husky's are above the KTM's! Throw in the white color and they are light years better for the same $$.

Most states are pretty lenient about plating dirt only bikes,,,, except California. My friend has a plated YZ lol , brake light, headlight.. your good :D

True true, soon they will start smogging off road vehicles here in Commifornia. Commercial diesel trucks have to comply with increasingly stringent regualtions in a state that relies heavily on them for goods distrubution. But if you buy a hybrid or electric vehicle, you get a special sticker to use the HOV lanes driving solo. Whoopeeee!

Guys, lets take a breath......this isnt a general purpose/leaf blower forum, nor are we going to change the political dynamic in any particular state or country.

Simple fact is the Husky dealers now sell many street legal models and it will be a problem if they lose that option.

The nice brochure Husky recently sent out has the FE models as CA Green Sticker compliant. No street legal in CA

It's funny you mention KTM not keeping DSers happy...

KTM dropped sponsorship of their AMA national dual sport rides.. It's now called the Husqvarna
Dual Sport Series... brought to you by the company that doesn't have a DS in their lineup. That's some serious rocket science style advertising. :-(

Husky has been the AMA Dual Sport Series Sponsor this year (2013). Not a new sponsorship. If continues in '14, I agree though except that it's is a core target market for any moto related brand to advertise to.

I meant Husky DS customers of course. If I wanted to spend $12000 on a street legal bike, I'd rather shop for a Harley.

I was looking at the Yamaha WR450 and the TE511 last year. They were the exact same price and both new 2012's. The Yamaha is not street legal out of the box, so I went with the Husky just because I didn't want to go through the hassle of plating the Yammie. Best decision I ever made cause my husky is WAY sexier than a WR and probably faster :). Even in a state where you can plate anything (Colorado), being plated from the get go is a big bonus IMO.
