    TE = 4st Enduro & TC = 4st Cross

  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

nope ... but then, I'm not buying any bike but this one would be last ...too much about that bike that is a question mark ... And I've never been a fan of anything bmw has made ... not that at times it was not cool, just not my style ... Like the streeters with the cylinder heads parallel with the ground ... That worked I guess to cool the engine but not for me ....

PS -- no kick starter as a backup was not designed by a rider.

They do hire good help at times 4 sure :)

yea looks good but is it 2 over the top and will the price be ok only time will tell i just hope bmw is not going 2 screw things up for husky

If they call it a te450 i wont buy one. huskys are huskys don't make a new bmw and call it a husky. Call it a BMW

Can't say for sure until we see final spec/cost and some tests of the production version, but right now I'm expecting to buy one.

I don't care too much about the kick start - I've never used the one on my current TE450 other than once in a while just for fun. Starts first time every time on the button except when there's something wrong like the water temp sensor failing, and in that case I wouldn't want to be trying to kick it into life as it can take several minutes of turning it over on the estart! Sure the battery could go flat or the starter motor could blow up, but it's never happened yet. The engine could also blow up and I don't ride with a spare one of those so you can't allow for everything. Don't get me wrong, I'm not against having a kick start as a backup if people want it, it's just not a priority for me so long as the e-start is reliable (time will tell on this bike but e-start's been around long enough now). It sure looks as though they don't think a kick start is a priority for most riders...

Kickstart is a thing of the past. Give up on it people. There is no need for it if you know how to crank your bike properly. And with FI it will be even more idiot proof.

I want to ride one first before making any decisions, but I'd definitely consider it.

Actually, I like it but will wait till a 250 version comes out. No kicker, beats kicking the thing in 95 degree weather and 100% humidty in the middle of the woods.

I don't have a valid reason to make a purchase at this time- my 09TE450 is serving me better and better as I become better prepared to tune it (IBEAT!!!). I love this bike. I don't have money to buy new bikes- so I was lucky I could buy this one.

That said- I don't fault this new 2011 for its stated specs. On paper- I think it could be a superb bike. I don't mind the look either- add some red and white and graphics and I believe the base of the bike will become Huskified and gorgeous. It just needs some care - as I do- from those high heeled detailers above.

Absolutely. I can hardly wait. Need to off some extra bikes this summer and I am all over this new one. I ain't scared. :p

Im looking forward to test it, im going to Italy in sept to ride and practice enduro. And the the new 449 and the WR 300 will be waiting for me to try them out !. I´ll keep you posted :)

FWIW- I don't really agree that kickstarters are a thing of the past. We may not need them as much as we used to, but when you need it, you need it. Especially up here in gods country.
I've had to use the kicker several times in the past couple years on bikes that had the starter systems fail for one reason or another. No fun having to get a dead bike out of the bush when your 100 miles from nowhere.

Also, every once in a while my own TE 250 will not turn over when hot due to the piston being just before TDC(it happens about once every 100 starts or so). It's done that since new. I have an autoclutch, so I can't bump it past TDC, or back up the engine, or Bump start it.
A half stab on the kicker cures the problem.

On a closed course race bike that is never more than a few miles from support, E-start only is fine.
For the rest of us......well....

I love this bike, but 450cc is just too much for me to handle. My next new Husky is likely to be one of the Xlight 250s. (Unless Husky comes out with a DI 2-stroke in the next two years)

I don´t think e-start only is a problem. My te has never failed to start. Anyway the engine is hard to start with the kickstarter, more than my previus xr4. Its nice to have kickstarter as backup, but I´m not to concerned, because on the xr my kickstarter broke two times in the middle of nowere. After bump starting and praying for the rest of the trip for not stalling i was able to get back. You can also carry some wires to "borrow" your buddys energy. (just as i always carry a small hose to borrow gas):-)
