• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

My insurance company said it is covered. I need to have it inspected by a dealer first. I might be looking for someone heading from Portland to Salem to do me a big favor.

Thanks everyone.

Sorry to hear about it NW Rider. You really need to keep thinking how much worse it could have been.
I go down to Bills fairly often so I could take the bike down. PM me if you need someone.

When they took me off the morphine drip 2 weeks after my accident, the doc struggled to find something that took the edge off the pain and didn't make me sick. Make sure your doc knows that you are having trouble keeping it down and he will find something that doesn't make you sick. They do want to make the pain manageable because it helps your mental state and that helps in healing.

Glad to hear you are Ok. Bummer when things like this happen. Just makes one remember that you are allways open to a accident--even a Cage.

Heal well and soon.

The passanger was the salesman who had just sold the guy the car. I wondered why he didn't just turn the ignition but I guess he panicked. We always hear of dirt bike accidents for stuck throttles when we all know you just have to pull in the clutch.

He did pull the ebrake (said he was doing 90 at the time) and swerved to miss many cars. I heard that if I was not in the way a kid on a bike would have been in his direct path.

At the moment what sucks is the oxycodone makes me puke. I have to take just enough to keep out of severe pain and add some tylenol to the mix. Hopefully I will be less sore in a few days.

When I had kidney stones my doctor prescribed the same thing and I had the same results. I've never been sicker in my life. So he ordered promethazine and the nausea went away. It might be worth a shot. Anyway I hope you get to feeling better quit tossing your cookies  That can really make your stomach muscles sore huh?

I hope you heal quickly. Life has a way of being unkind at times and am sorry this event happened to you, but I am very glad you are still with us.

Sailors use ginger products to quell the stomach. Gingerbread cookies, or even a graham cracker or 'Nilla' wafers.

If you get more information please keep us posted.

Holy crap Mark!

Glad to hear you're (mostly) okay. Feel free to call me if you need anything.

Here is the truck

This is where my feet were. No wonder they are broken.

Sorry to hear about the accident. Glad you're still with us. Heal up quick, but don't try to do more than the doc allows.

More proof that motorcycles are dangerous!!

The wreck you described is my biggest fear riding a bike. It's probably good for your Kharma to get it out of the way in a car instead!

Heal quick

I think he was in a vehicle with his bike in back.

Hi, NC! Xymotic knows that NWRider was in his truck. He was just being our own wonderful Xymotic when he said motorcycles were dangerous:lol: I'm pretty sure his tongue was firmly planted in his cheek when he said it :D

And NWRider, I am so glad you are still with us! I got goose bumps looking at the photos of your truck  How are you feeling, anyway? Are you using a wheelchair? My dad broke both his feet once and it was a total nightmare for him.

I'm feeling crappy actually. Sitting with my feet elevated all day is killing my lower back. Trying to find a position that does not hurt my back will almost always hurt my bruised ribs. Then of course the feet hurt. Mornings are worse since I am stiff and all the drugs are worn off. But I am sure it will get better in the next couple weeks.

At least I have one foot I can put weight on. That allows me to use a walker instead of a wheel chair. It sucks now but I am glad that I do not have the kind of injuries that a person never really recovers from. With time and some training I know I will be 100% again.

I got the settlement for my truck today. It is over high KBB value so I am happy with it. My wifes lawyer friend has advised us to not hire a lawyer for a while as it will just slow things down. He said we have a couple years to settle on the medical stuff so just don't sign any settlment until we hire one.

As soon as I can get someone to take my bike to Bills I will send a bill to the other drivers insurance. The Husky came out a lot better then the truck did, thats for sure.

Dealing with the hospital to get appointments and send my records in for disability payments is a PITA. For 16% of GDP our medical system should suck less.

Dealing with the auto insurance companies is going smooth though.

I'm hopeful that I will feel a lot better by next week.

NWRider I responded to your other thread, yet I din't know it was this serious until I read your account of the accident. Man we are all glad you are alive. Keep us posted on your progress please.

I'm glad you're doing okay and hope you heal up well. I had a close call myself surfing in some hurricane surf and am having my nose rebuilt on Tuesday, but wow was your accident bad and I'm amazed your doing so well. Heal up quick!

Wow, the pictures make this thread so much worse. It seems like the passenger was trying to steer down the road.

I like to think I'd:
A) grab the key
(as a side note are there any cars where the key won't just turn off the motor while driving? It makes me wonder about the wisdom of the new fancy cars with the radio key that stays in the pocket and the car starts with a button.)

b) knock the car into neutral

c) veer off the right into a pole or something _before_ the minivan got to 90.

I'd like to think I'd do all of these things, but in the heat of the moment who really knows.

Hi NwRider i hope your soon on the mend, I really feel for you . Your a lucky guy to walk away from that rta. your situation is not that much different from mine, but mine was my back and neck. And ive just started riding again. So try to keep your spirits up and think of all that riding ahead Good luck dude

It looks like the Husky survived with little damage. It went down to Bills with the help of Xcuvator (thanks!!!). Only thing wrong is a bent front rotor. I'll have plenty of time to find one I guess. Bill did the inspection free of charge. That is one of the many reasons he is a great dealer!!

Thanks to high demand again for smokers in the NW my bike will get a ride back from a friend. He is having to go all the way to Florance to get a new YZ250 as it is the only one left he found. So he will get it back for me on his way home. It's probably best that it is not damaged as my insurance did not cover it. I could have made a claim with the guy who hit me but I would not be surprised if his private property damage limit will be exhausted. I'll try to get the rotor paid for at least though.

That's one of the reasons I wondered about the advice you got to wait to get an attorney. It seems to me that there will be a LONG line of people trying to get paid. Is there really no advantage to getting your claim into his insurance B4 the suits start flying?

private property coverage is generally very low. The medical part is a whole different thing. Really until I get healed up I will have no idea what the medical cost will be and once I settle thats it. When I see my ortho next week one of the questions I will be asking is his opinion on the possibility of a coplicated recovery. If he is fairly sure I will heal right up with no further problems I might expidite things.
