• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Barkbusters and Stradas...possible?

I have the HDB NexGens on my Strada, mainly due to the more flexible mounting options. Plus, I don't like the guards mounted to the triple or top clamp, given the option... I'd rather have them mounted to the bars.
They fit well, without having to relocate anything. So, I consider that a win.

Another vote for the HDB top clamp mounts. I set up my WR250R with those U shaped mounts and with the first hard hit the guards rotated and the clamp broke my brake line. One brake line is more than the difference between buying a good set of guards versus ponying up the extra $50 or so for the HDBs the first time round.

I could've saved a buck-fifty had I bought the HDBs first time round...:excuseme:

For Street Strada riders, here is an $80 complete solution that's supposed to be the strongest single fixture hand 'shield.' I like the Cycra hand 'guards' too, but after all the attachments, they cost about as much as Barkbusters. I like these handshields because they don't have the end guard brackets (which are a hassle that is needed for offroad riding) and of course they are cheaper (half price) and more modular (with an additional savings.) I am just looking for wind-chill, small birds, and occasional flying objects protection though.

Oh yeah, they are light and strong too: they are pretty much light weight for all of their product lines. It took an afternoon to find these and I am looking forward to trying them out: most hand 'shields' are plastic and a bracket that holds them on with no real hand protection. That is what sets these apart - new technology. ymmv

Ditto, no problems whatsoever for me either with the Storms on the Strada. On in like 10 mins and nothing seems scary tight on the wires to me.

I installed Barkbuster VSPs with Acerbis triple clamp mounts. Worked great and no interference with any of the cables.

Here is a Cycra racing AL hangaurd for a 2012 Kaw Versys 650 (another 650 midrange, vertical twin, monster via Ninja 650 engine and midrange cam - when you hit 6k rpm, it sounds like it's changing gears!)

They have Lincoln Continental lights for brakes and blinkers on the guard shields (pictured with matching 6061 red AL Pazzo shorty's and mirror extenders.) The best thing is the lightweight racing guards. The complete(!) package of handguards off ebay from manufacturer was $127 under Zeta brand name (they have many.)

With all the heavy accessories, the lightweight racing Al accessories help out :-)
