  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Baseline 2008 TC250 Suspension Settings?

Anyone out there have a good baseline suspension set-up for MX? I've left the suspension well enough alone for the break-in period but I've got about 12hrs on the bike now and find I'm taxing the suspension on the bigger hits and through the whoops. I suck at bike set-up in general, just hop on and ride so I need some help getting into the ball park. I have the forks at the stock settings, 15 clicks out for comp and rebound and went a bit stiffer on the rear, 10 clicks out for hi/low comp and rebound in order to get the rear end to not wallow through the fast rollers. Sag is 1" static and about 3.75 - 4" rider sag. To be honest, I haven't measured the rider sag fully geared up, just sat on it with street clothes and had my pops measure it, was 3.5" so I figure when I'm geared up it should be close.

My problems are the standard deflection on small bumps and bottoming badly on big hits. I'm about 175lbs, an aggressive rider, probably mid pack intermediate racer speed. The initial harshness isn't too bad, just forces me to ride aggressively and then it works well but the harder I push, the worse I blow through the stroke and bottom if I don't hit the down slopes perfectly. Since I'm old and just getting back into MX, I'm looking for a bit of forgiveness in the suspension so when I don't nail the jumps perfectly, I'm not scared for my life. There are a few big hits at the local track that I'm scared to hit with the given set-up since I fear a wicked harsh bottom and bounce out of control if I come up short or over jump ( the 110' table in particular I loose a ton of time rolling instead of jumping  ). Need to have faith in the suspenders and grow some balls I suppose!

Thanks!
