  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

125-200cc Beta 300 two stroke (2013)

The problem with Beta is that they are priced almost out of reach.

You get what you pay for. I remember my first husky cost me 300.00 less than my new Beta, and if I would have purchased the same CC engine it would be 200.00 diff. Now that I have both and only years apart I can tell you these Beta bikes are pretty dam awesome. Keep in mind, all bikes have some problems, some more than others. I love my Husky bikes, but I love my Beta also. Not brand loyal so take it as you wish.

Beta 4 strokes are intriguing as well until you look at the weight and price. I know they say they ride light, but what about loading or picking it up out of a hole. Like I said before, I am glad new 2t's are being developed, but I am betting on Husqvarna to build something really good at the best price. All you have to do is look at the X-Lights and new 125-150 bikes to see the trend.

My RS520 feels lighter than my TE450 when wheeling it around, grabbing the useful handle under the rear of the seat, or even lifting it onto a stand. I don't get it, both bike are about the same but the Beta feels lighter. Even my 16 yo son says the same thing. Makes one scratch their head...

I find the new Beta two stokes very interesting. Nice looking bikes that seem to be a notch above the current KTM/Husaberg 250/300. If Husky doesn't hit a home run in 2013 1/2, they may be too late to the table in the 250/300 market. I imagine Ossa will get their act together for 2014 as well as the rest of the 2T offerring manufacturers so they have a short window to get the market excited before they get a small page as an afterthought, late to market offerring.

$8k MSRP in Canada for the 300, I would make the switch to Beta if Husky doesn't do something.
