    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

The motor seems under stressed, holds a lot of oil and has a big oil cooler, I bet it is hammer reliable. Yes, the engines for all AJP motorcycles are made in China - specifically in fact by a company called Zongshen. Zongshen is ranked as one of the top 5 motorcycle engine manufacturers in China by size and also happens to be an ISO9001 certified company. Being ISO9001 certified means that Zongshen has, and continues to meet an outside auditors world wide standard of established criteria for high quality control management. This is one of the reasons that the AJP can offer an industry leading 2 year warranty against mfg defects on all their motorcycles (and engines) worldwide. As a side note, Zongshen has established corporate partnerships with not only AJP of course, but also Piaggio (parent company of Aprilia, Moto Guzzi, and Vespa), and also Harley Davidson as well. AJP feels very confident in these motors and has a long history with them.

AJP has been manufacturing motorcycles continuously in Portugal for over 27 years and counting. They might be new to the North American market, but they have literally 1000's of motorcycles currently in use throughout Europe, the UK, Brazil, and 10 other markets around the world.

Yep, we have a large parts crossover in the works so most stuff should be easy. I think the rear plastic might be KTM 85 but not 100% sure.
 
I asked about the brakes because it is important to me to have quality brakes on any bike. The hydraulics are all made by AJP but not the AJP motorcycle company (name coincidence) the same AJP stuff that comes on GasGas bikes. Top quality stuff and their hydro clutch is my favorite. Should be really smooth and have nice control as they build them for many trials type bikes.
 
I'm really not concerned about where anything is made. I'm sure it works. The company would have tanked a long time ago with a crap bike and that kind of warranty :). I actually really like it. Have been missing my near maintenance free wr250x lately (as a second bike). I really see the value in these things. I really can't say if give up mine for it but I'd love to use that for long trail rides and a little commuting to work (haha CA guys, I can plate anything I want :)) sorry for that lol

Like it or not you really cant be any more. It is a global world and manufacturing and metallurgy is a science now. My Taiwanese motored TE511 has incredible quality and looks amazing inside. All stuff including "American made" product are littered with sourced parts. Its where we are at this point.

AJP hydraulics are on a lot of trials bikes and also some of the Beta Enduro bikes as recent as 2010.
The AJP bikes also come with Michelin tires even though they are the Enduro Comp, it shows they are not skimping, quality parts throughout.
As far as Chinese motors are concerned, I would not be surprised if some of the smaller Honda and Yamaha's had engines built in China.
 
Good deal I hope you and WR sell a ton of these. Oh, and I remember seeing a thread here or somewhere showing pics of the little Honda's 50,70 and I think 110 cc bikes showing they are made in China now. It's a pic of the made in China tag on the steering stem and they seem to still be tough as nails.
 
Good find Mike. Lots of these in the UK so search there for reports. I'm told the shifting improves a lot after some time. Also the rear brake lever has been addressed and changed. The importer told me he mentioned this to the factory and the next bikes he got had a revised brake lever. Seems they are very responsive to change so feed info back to me and I'll make sure it gets to them. As for the torque motor thats the same thing I keep hearing, pulls a lot harder than you would expect. Can be a gear high etc. Even the water cooled PR5 is like that I'm told. As to the mud in the rear mounted cap it does look like a mud collector but then again the bike will go 90 miles on a tank so probably not an issue as you can just refill it after washing it.

Might be a little early for that. We can keep it here on this thread and in my Motosportz area for now unless others feel that way. We are only one thread in and no bikes yet. I posted this in my area to not pollute the main forum with it. I'm open to whatever but this thread keeps it all contained for right now.
