  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Black wheels

TE 250 Girl

Husqvarna
A Class
Hello! I want to put black wheels on my 07 TE 250. I want it to look like the 08's and newer ;). When I googled for information, well, nothing came up. "Excel", which is the brand thats on it now, doesnt seem to offer them? Do I need to just order 08 Husqvarna wheels from Tasky's?
Are they the same (07 to 08), just different colors?

And also, how much to install them? My Boyfriend says he wont do it as it is apparently a pain in the butt?? :excuseme:

Thank you to anyone that response!

Maybe you could take them to your local shop and have the current ones anodized or powdercoated black. Might be cheaper to have them laced/trued then buying a whole new set of wheels.

Or maybe buy some used ones...found this on ebay...he/she's selling the rear too (not sure I'd pay his price, but that's up to you)

Thank you Phoenix for your Idea. Im not sure what powder coating is, but will look into that!

Im guessing this IS as complicated as I had first thought! :)

I did find "complete" wheels, but they were nearly $500 each!! But the hub was red and would look real cool!!! Too much $$$

So, can I just go into a shop, buy black Husqavarna rims, and have them put them on?

You can always buy only the rim it self something like this and build your wheel with your old hubs, will be cheaper then brand new complete wheels for sure.

The Husky rims are a premium rim from Excel. Unless you buy them from someone parting out a fairly new bike, you will have to get them from Husky and they won't be cheap. To anodize them you'd have to strip the tire, hub and spokes from them and then put it all back together, thus the PITA your boyfriend mentions. You could sell your rims and apply that money towards black ones. Black ones may cost over $1000 with hubs and spokes. Motoxotica or any dealer could quote you a price.

The biggest pain in the butt with black rims is keeping them black..especially on a dirtbike. They will get chipped up and kinda funky-looking. Nothing a black Sharpie can't take care of at first, but they will end up looking kinda funky after awhile...especially if you change your tires all the time like I do.

Just some food for thought... :)

Kouack; Ive have been looking for this option. But all of my searches only come up with Excels being the only ones available?

Pro-Wheels, Moose, and those Warp 9's you mentioned above?

Woods chick, I KNOW you are so right, I see the guys bikes (KTM's) and the black rims are all scratched up. I was always just chalking it up to them being hard core riders? I didnt think about the tire changing thing, but now that I think about seeing it done, ya, it will mess them up!!

Im just trying to make her look good, and noticed that the wheel color is a big difference. :)

What ive found is - the stocked Excel rims have the wrong spoke angle for our hubs...Buchanan's (http://www.buchananspokes.net/)
Will have rims available and or spokes to fit the conventional (Japanese) spoke angle pattern.

But again, its not cheap....it may be cheaper to unlace the rims from your wheels and have them anodized then reassembled.
Perhaps a local shop can give you a labor rate for diassembling / reassembling the wheels, and then you can price quote anodizing to see if you want to go that route.

Sounds like you got a plan. To spice them up a bit more, remove the seals/bearings and have the hubs powdercoated red. Post some pics when ya' get them finished.

I don't know if the hubs on that year Husky has magnesium hubs but,if it does,I don't think the powdercoat company will do them...something about the makeup of the magnesium that blisters when paint is applied. It's usually minor, but my shop talked me out of doing it. just sayin'

No i did not really search for specific Husky rims, i was more suggesting that road instead of buying new wheels but getting yours powder coated is perfect

Ok. So I take them to http://www.seattlepowdercoat.com/home for $120. Then i take them to http://www.prowheelracing.com/faq for $60 to put them back together. Add some Wa State sales tax and Im at $200 or so? I think this is a good plan!

$120 sounds steep to PC 2 wheels. My buddy at Vancouver powder coating did some wheels for me for $50. I tore them down and he blasted and coated them. Rebuilding and truing was not fun, but its totally doable.

They came out looking great.

And FWIW, my factory anodized Excels on my 09' Husky looked like hell after 2-3 months of trail riding. Not saying anodizing is bad or anything, but it doesn't appear to hold up better than powder coating to me. Plus I can re-powder coat as necessary for $50.

Hooray!! I love Cafe Husky**************************************** I did a search on here, and found a thread that was about Hall's Cycle's (somewhere back east) having special rims made. Black, special rims!!!

So, I told the BF and he ordered the LAST pair they had! Only $100 per rim too! But now he has to take the wheels apart and put them back together.Oh well . . . I will have to do something a little extra tonight :D:D:D:devil:

Great that you're getting what you want.....and, of course, great for the BF.

I like the black wheels too when I saw the new bikes coming with them. I asked the dealer about them and he said they're not really going to look all that great down the line so I decided my shiny silver ones were OK.

YAY!  :applause:

The next mod you could do to your 250 is get a 300cc big bore kit from Motosportz. I installed one of their kits on an 08 TE 250 and it was really a piece of cake. The extra power is awesome and still controllable.
