• Hi everyone,

    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

if you dont like ktm that much then you aint getting a current husky, personally yes ktm have flooded the market but thats a good thing for spares i will be making the swith to the orange sun pumpkin or whatever you like to call them this summer/winter as i want a 450 and spares are riding past me everyday at the lights...
 
I respect your opinion, but it's time to move on. There are still many Husky riders from the Swedish Era, that think your '08 TE510 is not a Husky... Think about it.


Give up and ignore us Norm, this is not going to end just like when the italians bought the swedish huskys.
 
TC125. Maybe in the future, we'll see a TE150 or more likely a TE200....

I really would like to see a TE200, seems that's what the Berg guys really thought was missing. I was reading about the 250sx and would love to have a new TC250. I'm not going to lie, I went to a KTM dealer and sat on all of them just to see :). The SX felt quite a bit lighter which surprised me since none had fuel. Well that's all I got, hope this get back on track. :)
 
umm what is with the kool aid thing? am in the uk and im dumbfounded when i hear the saying.

I feel like this too and the reason I do is because IMO the new Huskys don't have an identity yet. This has been beaten to death and I get the whole last minute hodge podge re branding scheme, I guess??? The future identity of Husqvarna is hanging in the balance at the moment. Did the Italians slap the Husky logo onto a Cagiva the first year? Really a question here and I don't recall so I am not trying to be facetious I am merely curious how they transitioned compared to what KTM is attempting.

I think a lot of the resistance is that many KTM guys bash there husky friends relentlessly and now this rebadging does not sit well with them.
 
Lining up against a sea of Orange at the races always felt like..I dono..like I was different, unique maybe. Maybe something to prove that you dont have to be on a KTM to do ok. I really enjoyed watching a few of my friends place very high on Huskys. Seeing my name in the top ten of my class with 2 other huskys among a pile of KTMs was cool I guess.
Now its like hmmm....Dude is on an "old Husky" (Italian). Maybe he's not that good or kinda dumb. I dono. I do like KTMs. They are awesome bikes but sheet man..do we all have to ride the same damn thing?
 
Not concerned because even at my local race series there was only one Berg. I'll still them why their KTM's suck :). I'm glad it was sold to KTM because anyone else that would have bought it may have fallen flat in a few years again. I really hope they separate the brands more but as long as I have an amazing local dealer and this forum/sponsors I'm good to go. I really just hope all the negativity doesn't make the new guys steer clear of this site.
 
On the flip side I do like the look of the new bikes but I will not be buying a 2014 Husky. Excited to see what 2015s look like.

Cagiva transition was slow motion compared to KTM's.... It took Cagiva 2 years after they purchased Husky in 1986, to do what KTM/SP did in two months... close a factory, move production to the home factory and get ready to produce rebadged bikes.

Cagiva was also different in that they kept the Husky 4T bikes, as they were cutting edge technology at the time. The only 4T that would be close for years was the Husaberg and KTM would buy them in 1995, to jump start their RFS program. We wouldn't see the Yamaha 400F until 1998 and the KTM RFS until 2000. From then on Husky built some great 4T motors, but they were never viewed as leading technology by the industry. KTM feels their 4T bikes are superior. That can be argued.

Cagiva killed off the Swedish Husky 2T bikes and they became rebadged Cagivas, plain and simple. Their 2 stroke designs were more advanced than Husky's. Trouble was that Cagiva didn't put a lot of work into the engines over the years. The 125 got the most, with a new engine design in 1998 and the 250 about none. It's little change from a 1987 Cagiva 250, but what a great engine to start with!

It would be 1991 before Cagiva would produce truly unique Italian Huskys and then they would do a massive update again in 1992. Unfortunately Cagiva's money woes would arrive by the mid 1990's and the slide down would begin. Years of racing in all forms of road and off road racing consumed masses of cash. The sale of Ducati to TPG for a cash infusion, massive resources poured into bring MV Augusta back to life and the decline of Cagiva as a street bike brand, pushed Husky into a smaller and smaller corner. Literally floods and a famine of cash came to call. Suitor Piaggio spurned them, Proton bought them and dumped them as quickly. Italian investor group scooped them up, hoping MV prestige bikes would generate cash, but didn't happen and as soon as BMW showed up with a bag of cash... sold!

The BMW years... argue all you want, but they ended up pretty much giving it to KTM!

Nice thanks for the info:cheers: I guess this transition is similar and brand loyal guys will always feel betrayed during a takeover. Good news is the brand lives on and the future looks bright, expensive but bright.

Now where were we? Oh yes, Braaaap! BTT
