• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Could be the Rev limiter? ..........which breaks off Ignition for a few seconds I believe.

"Short Shifting" generally implies shifting before max revs..........so.......I'm not clear on the
situation.

Some people mistakenly describe short-shifting as upshifting without using the clutch. Perhaps that's what he means, since he says he was "giving it the business." If that's the case, I reckon he was hitting the rev limiter.

Ok, for everyone's future reference:

"Short Shifting" is shifting earlier (lower) in the RPMs than you would normally shift while accelerating.
Sometimes it is good to be in the next gear to avoid shifting at an awkward transition.

"Speed shifting" or "Power shifting" is jamming the gears with just a blip of the throttle, and is perfectly normal on a dog box transmission like is in most motorcycles.

Thanks for the replies. I was hoping it was the rev limiter and nothing more. Neat feature. Also, you guys are absolutely correct, I was "long shifting", not short shifting :busted:

Why wring it out so far, you're well out of the peak torque range by that point anyway, it's not a 2-stroke.

No doubt, a tool move by me. However, last night was my first real deal ride since last year, so I was a bit zealous to say the least :D Hey, don't get me wrong, the bike has an awesome midrange. Pulls like a tractor in the middle. Just wish it did the same from bottom to mid. So I guess hitting the rev limiter, after exiting the freeway, between a stop sign and third gear is the result of that wish. Will be mindful and careful not to do that again though. Love this bike way too much to dog it out. If time and money allows, will try a tuner this season. Perhaps that'll give me the bottom end that I'm looking for.

Edit: I don't catch the part in your post saying you don't have a tuner yet. All I can say is GET ONE! It will change the bike!

Not sure of your set up, but my 09 TE 610 pulls from idle to top very strong. I do have a few mods, like pipe ( X3 ), JD tuner, air box mod (EHS prefilter) and 15/49 gears which makes a big differance, but was good with stock 15/45

It sounds like you know what you are doing Dualie. You'll get it figured out.

The 610 just won't explode in revs like a dual cammed/multi cylinder street bike, but it does pretty
darn well.... tuned up and running a little racy rich.

I bought the bike in early 2011 from a dealer that had a few brand new 2009's. Changes to the bike so far are: seat concepts, hammerhead shifter, conti SM tires, iridium spark plug, power up mod, oury grips, ballistics lithium battery, auto up kick stand removal (LOL) and a leo V slip on. My gearing is stock. Also removed the heat shields and replaced them with exhaust wrap, cos the rear shield fell off. That's all I've done so far. Well that and oil and oil filter changes of course. So next performance mod would in fact be the JD tuner. Money is tight though, so we'll see. Thanks again. Love discussing this bike.

What size Ballistics battery?

Keep us advised on how that works out...........reference starting cold and hot, etc.

I don't have the Ballistic, but I can tell you the 8cell Moty works great! Just a regular start is normal cranking, but I had bad gas and trouble starting and that's when it shines! I think it could have started my truck!
