  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Brittle plastics on newer bikes, why ?

How come your sticker was so cheap????
The one on the 449 was listed at $45 The frigging guard was only$52!
I ended up going to a Husky mower dealer & got a brushed alloy badge for $25. Stuck it the the front race plate & then used the backing to make a new sticker out of vinyl for the guard :)
BTW, on 449, guard comes with a sticker (doesn't show on parts list that way)

Dunno,was price from MPE .
I'll get one from eBay .
I'll go into mower shop too, that's an idea. :)

Just can't get on with ktm, tried an 07 250excf, bog off idle, revved well, gutless though, sold it.
Bought a 13 300exc, hated it.

Bought a 14 te250r, apart,from plastics, absolutely love it.best bike I've had,in years and I am a massive Yamaha dude, so that's saying something.

I was that way as well, did not like the ergonomics or handling. Rode a 2014 FE350 the other day and it changed my mind. Really liked it but would have to get the 450. They should still make a 400, that was a perfect do it all motor.

They'd be better than the shit fitted to 13/14 te250/310r then.

Here's what I did today.
YZ guard, needs to go back 20mm but it is a retro fit, went on easily with some predrilled holes.
Some stickers will see it ok.
Thicker and better plastic than the OEM husky crapola.

Looks crooked....makes the bike look like it's on its side!:D

Yeah, 449 is a different sticker, mine was MPE too.

Badge is P/N. 532 42 8676 (Husky power products, like mowers & chainsaws etc)

Here's a pic sorry about the grainy shot. It is off a zero-turn front deck mower.

Do you reckon the ergos have changed much Kelly?
My mates Bergs from last year feel funny to me....

I have only ridden one Berg that was not the 70 degree motored ones (I have ridden all of those 390/450/570 and like them a bunch) and it was a 250 so no real reference. I hopped right on and felt comfortable right away which was refreshing. Felt comfortable riding a good pace right away and the bike worked for me. Needed more power down low for sure. Ran great, handled nice, normal comfortable layout, suspension is nice. Real good bike.

MAYBE, I might, you know, possiblly think about considering trying one.................perhaps.

Just a test ride......maybe.

I rode my mates 570 berg, jeez it's got a fat midriff, had bow legs coming off it.
Power was insane but smooth.
Same ktm type ergos I don't like though.
My 13 was well built but just not me, I can jump on an old wr450f and feel instantly comfy, never ever had that on a ktm/berg.
I'll give the new ones a go but my next weapon will be a freeride (doesn't feel like other Ktms.) and then a new model 250fi yz250f, they're an absolute weapon !

Apples and oranges IMHO. I have owned a lot of Yamahas. They are scooped seat, long feeling raked out slow turning bikes (never need a stabilizer). The KTM is the opposite of this. Tall flat Europene seat, very quick geometry (always need a stabilizer), feels short and lively. I see why you dont like them. Good to have choices so they fit different pilots... which is why IO was sad to see the italian huskys go away, they just fit me.

Felt instantly at home on the TE449! Loved my 2005 WR450, but struggled for room on steep hills & felt the need to sit down.
TE suits me perfectly.

Exactly. You can spend 13k on a ktm, it then needs suspension work, a damper and starter fixed...
Oh and you can't say this to a pumpkin rider. They are so blinkered it's not funny ! :D

Ktm merging or whatever with husky was a death sentance. :(

My plastics are Acerbis..I checked under them and saw the brand on them. I think that is why they are so good and not cheap. Mine came from dealer with Acerbis plastics on it. Year 11, TE250.

Fitted up the YZ guard as you know, went out Sunday, had a spectacular "over the bars" incident after hitting a rock ledge at about 40kph(tried to mono it but clipped it) , landed a good 15-20ft away, front guard was perfect, I have no doubt the OEM unit would have been absolutely fooked.

My hips sore, I got awarded 9.5/10 as I didn't land on my feet, must try harder ! :(

 At least they scored you well.

Beerburrum dude?

Yeah, I was out with a few fairly fast dudes, only 6 of us, rock dancer and another mate who may or may not be on here (briggsy) bailed about the 60-70klms mark as briggsy hadn't been out for a while and was, knackered, we went onto 95klms.

I am rooted, the off was an absolute ripper and considering I landed on my newly busted/torn AC shoulder, I got up,straight away, felt fine.

Was a great ride, fast and fun ! :)

Big day in there!
We were all nearly out of fuel after 60km last ride, actually, the 300exc did run dry, my low light was on & even the little YZ125 was running low....
Throttle jockeys ha ha

Yeah, mostly

faster single trail, not many steep rocky shitters but the pace was on at times !

I think we were lied to. I don't think Stephan is going to cough up parts for our bikes like he promised. I don't think huskys will ever be much different than KTM like he promised. I think the end game was always to get rid of husky and simply market more KTMs with the name. Hope I am wrong.
Agree in Australia the cat is amongst the pigeons Ktm dealers loose the bergs the husky dealers that had the bmw huskies pick up the Ktm huskies - husky dealers now have berg parts and the bmw husky parts are still supplied by the original importer PFG
obviously Ktm bought the enduro and mx stuff from bmw to get them out of market as they were getting an increased market share due to quality bikes at a better price.
Let's hope the strategy is not to make the bmw husky parts expensive and hard to get!

The BMW Husky parts are already expensive and hard to get in Australia.
PFG Paul Feeney Group, is poorly stocked, over priced and difficult to contact directly.
Luckily Halls in the US is easy to deal with and if you're creative you can find some non genuine stuff to get around the issues.
