• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Broke my speedo LCD... don't ask.

Sorry, i meant from different model bike. Like the 310 or something.

Can't work, due to the fact that ECU+dash are complimentary to each other re: base functions of the bike.
There's also the issue of the TR being essentially a BMW product with its own BMW related electrics/electronics/ plugs/sockets etc.
and no other "Husky" (or other) parts will substitute.

I can definitely swap the LCD, I've got mine out... it's a 5 minute deal. Thanks for the heads up, I'm gonna see if I can't scare that one up over on adv rider!!

Are there any identification Part numbers etc on the LCD. I have an idea that Magnetti Marelli made them and might be able to supply you with a new LCD panel although it is not in their current parts catalogue.

The stock lcd panel is garbage. You may be able to swap out the lcd itself, and broken parts and get it working. You better be dang good at soldering and working with this stuff. One mistake, and you risk frying or bricking the ecu, and there is no support that I know of yet.
For the money, just add the Trail tech and be done, and have a panel you can read. As long as the bike is running, you are good to go. You can get a used TT for 50 bucks or so.

If you want stock, you are SOL. If you want to use another stock speedo, you will have to get the ecu and keys.

NOTE, get both keys, spares are not available.

But--Because you will now be using a computer and stuff from another bike vin numbers, you may have issues--LEGAL issues, when you sell the bike. BMW can plug in and do maintenance on the ecu. But when they plug in, a different bike vin (and mileage) is going to show up on their machine.

Messing with vin numbers is a federal crime...

Tampering with odo is a nono.

Good to know this one is fixed.

A little research after opening up my dash I find they are made by MTA Italy and that the LCD is a Chip on Glass type.
The Part Number is COG-VLIT1552-01 204.00.1051.E02 but it is not listed in their catalogues.

Contact for MTA is :

Headquarters V.le DELL'INDUSTRIA, 12, CODOGNO (LODI), 26845 ITALY email: infoitaly@mta.it

Maybe we can find out if they will supply spare LCDs in future ??

ECU+speedo (instrument cluster)+ keys are individual parts, but each is dependent on the other. They have to be coded together in order to work. Any of the 3 gets busted/ lost/ substantially damaged etc etc and it's not just a matter of getting a replacement part first, but then all 3 have to be coded which can only be done in extremely few places around the globe (to be near impossible, in practical terms).

There's someone here in Melbourne who bought 2 damaged TRs at an auction, one without keys.
He's been desperately trying to find the previous owner to maybe trace at least one key, as the bike is virtually worthless as is right now.

There's another TR at a local dealer which was stolen + recovered, some of the fairly minimal damage all round is a busted dash!
Splat...it's a dead-duck.
No oh-so-pretty aftermarket dash can do the job.
I always wondered though, if the Nuda parts could be substituted as there is still a good 2.hand supply in Europe.

If you can reach that guy... We can solve his Husqvarna problems.
