  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Calling all 2013 TE449 owners - Would you buy it again?

I would be happy to give you a full list of reasons why I would not buy again; but on this forum it will not be well received -- PM'd you...
I haven't received a PM but went back and read some of your posts. Did you get to try any mods? I wish dealers would just explain this to people rather than just being concerned about a sale. Your exact situation seems to be the same everyone has. Of course most people love the 449/511 once it's modded but it would be nice to have a heads up. I've ridden a tc449 several times and it is by far the best bike I've ridden, street or dirt. Good luck with everything and I hope you get an exhaust and remap soon

TE449 is fantastic dirtbike, strong and powerful! I would buy it again and again****************************************! Race map II, Acrapovic racing exhaust (for Europe)
Real "Ready to Race"! Ideal for Baja.

Yes, if I had the money I'd be doing a comparison between the 11 and my new 13. My lady is tall and needs a bike too!!!:busted:

Hi,

With what you know about your bike now, would you buy it again?

Im an old guy (44) and am considering getting back into riding one last time. I can get a good deal on a 2013 TE449 ($7800 OTD thats including CA tax, set up, reg) and was wondering if you recommend the bike at this price.

If I don't get the TE, I'll be buying a WR250R or DRZ400 , which are about $1400 less, but no where near the bike the Husky is.

A little background: I rode dirt bikes pretty much my entire life until 2000. I raced a few races in District 36. I'm 6' tall and weigh about 240lbs. I'm not sure about how much advanced ridding I have in me so I'm not sure I need a TE449, but the price is right.

Love my TE, but $7800 is a bit high. I got mine about 8 months ago for $7400 OTD. Just remember that you need to expect to pay $300-$400 in mods right off the bat to get it to full power.

In Russia price on TE449 is $11000...11500. :) KTM 450EXC-F - $13000...13500, Berg FE450 - $14000...14500.

You bet I'd get another. When I picked up my '12 TE449, the dealer had set the bike up really well. Top People. Akropovic pipe, map 2, and all the "un-needed" crap in a box. I just backed off the rebound settings all round for faster return and bike is perfect for this 59 y.o. used body. Great power, great suspension, and sooo much fun. But I don't need another, I'm keeping this one. I'm beginning to see an Aprillia 750 road bike in my future, just wouldn't know where to keep it without the Mrs springin' me.

My TE511 is the first bike I've owned since I had to give my 1990 KX125 back to my sponsor (turns out it wasn't mine after all). I've only got about 400 miles so far and it's still bone stock but I'm really looking forward to opening it up very soon. The stalling issue (due to running so lean to make it street legal) is very annoying at first but with the help of this forum and a great dealer I expect that I will be happy for a long time.

Useful to know if your name is Snowden ...

Way way off topic so I apologize........ Google Project Sweet Tea.... Then go dig up the Wired article from 3/12... Snowden didn't leak anything that most anyone in DC didn't already know.

Dean, please relocate as you see appropriate.

Hey TooOld,

Hows the seat height? At 37" I am a little concerned.

Nope not yet. The dealer has a 2012 TE250 with the low seat height which kinda intrigues me. But I've heard bad things about the starting system on those engines......
I would buy a MY13 TE511 all over again. I would not buy a TE250.
If you need a lower seat, get a SeatConcepts seat and have the bike lowered.

I had an 11 TE449 and now have a 13. I can tell you that the 13 is a way better bike than the 11. The seat height is noticeable shorter on the 13 and the 13 is quite a bit faster than the 11. I bought it as trail bike and for its intended purpose its a great bike. I could either buy a 2 yr old well used KTM 450 EXC or a brand new TE449 for the same price. Not much of a decision IMO.

I would not, while I really like the bike and how it handles, I wouldn't buy another.

Reasons,
Fuel range is way too low for my needs, i.e.. Death Valley, Desert rides
Vibrations from the high strung engine/ tranny combo is horrible and the same on the half dozen or so I've ridden, dampers and Flexx bars and balancing are not enough to tame these if you have sensitive hands like me.
Gearbox gearing no fun on the blacktop but you don't buy this bike for the blacktop.
Parts support very questionable in the future with the recent sale.
Bike need modified right out of the box to prevent stalling that could be dangerous.

The bike handles very well and the injection is very linear with no big power-band hits.

When they sold the company, I decided I was done with that model. Its been very fun after money dumped to make it run.
