  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Can I wire a 2012 TXC 310 for a headlight/tail light?

Not looking to make street legal. Just need a tail light and headlight for night time trail riding. Would preferably like to use the OEM TE 310 headlight. But I hear the stator is different and there is no wiring harness. Need your help. My buying bike depends upon this. Thanks so much!

Thanks for the reply. And yours is a 12 TXC 310 (or something similar)? Can you post a picture of the headlight you used? Any issues? Does it pull too much on battery? Guess not. :)

I wired mine myself, used Acerbis led tail light 45.00 and polisport MMX headlight around 60.00. I used standard 30 amp 87 relay with a fuse. I wired it so the small 4 watt bulb comes on with power to the bike then used a switch for the headlight.

Hi,

TXC310 '2012
I wired the stock headlight and aftermarket stoplight to use it in the Enduro competiton. All works correctly.

I don't really have anything to post as I didn't need it but whoever you end up buying the headlight and tail light from will include wiring diagrams then its a matter of just wiring it up.

You will need following:
Headlight

brake/tail light

headlight switch handlebar or DPDT On/OFF/On (toggle switch)

brake light switch PN# 800094849 about $14.00

relay w/fuse (optional but I think important)

wire and connectors of you're choosing

I didn't use a handle bar switch as I wired my 4 watt headlight bulb and my brake lights to come on when the fuel pump gets power and since I don't really ride at night I just use a 3 position toggle switch thru the side of the head light. It's more out of the way but I can still get at it if need be.

take a look at the picture and item No 26 the TXC comes with the bolt as where the TE has bolt with wires AKA the switch.. . They do make universal ones but the dealer one is only about 13.00 so no point in getting aftermarket. You will need to cut the connector off and run it inline to the brake light.

If this all seems Greek I would just seek someone that can help you that's had some experience with electronics.

I used a trailtech x2 and a trail/brake light from my onld 09 husky on a 14txc310. just bought a brake pressure switch and wired into the battery with an inline fuse

Thanks guys - I'm almost done. I got the brake switch, installed it and bled the brakes. What I decided to do is to wire a relay to the tail light wires. When the tail light is on the relay turns on the headlight circuit (wired directly to the battery with a 30Amp fuse, low beam only). A single On/Off switch turns all lights on and off.

I think I get the idea of what you're saying but normally you would trigger the relay of what you're power the brake light, not the tail light. So for example you run the three wires up the right side. You'll find the three fuses with with those small blades fuses. One of them, thing it was a gray wire powers on when you turn on the bike. That's what you want to use both for the brake light switch and also trigger the relay. This way you won't be worried about leaving the lights on.

Per you're switch see the drawing with the 6 dots that the bottom of a 3 position ON/OFF/On switch. If you're going to wire a switch you might as well wire one in that will work both hi/low. Its not really more work. you run the power from the relay to the center on both sides. The power from the high beam on one end and the low on the other end of the same side. The other side top and bottom is the tail light (not brake light) run grounds for head light and tail/brake light.

When the toggle is in the middle no light flip up you get high been and tail light, flip down you get low and tail light.

In addition what I did is run that 4watt small bulb that comes with most of the aftermarket headlight of the same power as the BRAKE LIGHT. so that's always on when the bike starts. It uses very little power, keeps the cops and other inspections happy that way I'm not running with the headlight on in the daytime.

Note this drawing with the brake pressure switch is from a road bike you don't need to worry about the front brake although you could wire in the TE switch if you really wanted to.

agreed. I used a 10 amp inline fuse from the battery to the relay then ran a power 12 gauge power & 14 gauge ground up to the handlebars that was spliced to the Head/tail/brake lights as well as heated grips. yea I'm a wussy.

Radio shack makes 2, 3, 6 and 12 wires connectors that I'm a big fan of for these types of jobs.

You know that headlight will need to come off so build it with connectors. :oldman:

I should have clarified a little better. I bought a harness as well, but it did not include a headlight connection. This is why I decided to wire a relay to the tail light wires. I wanted a single on/off switch (already had the switch) and it fit the harness.

I agree that the fuse should be smaller - I'll probably change it to 10A. The hight bean would have required a different switch, and I did not want to wait.

I called Baja Designs and they want to know how much watts this bike pulls? Said they need to know that before will sell it to me as it will kill battery. Any idea, guys?

not sure I follow. you want to know max watts the stater can produce or how much the bike uses to run. I'm not really sure of either. When I looked into it the TXC has the same stater as the TE so it shouldn't have a problems adding lights. I use mine hardly ever though so I'm not the best person to give advice. I think I figured my head light hi/low along with heated grips needed about 7amps at max if I were to use both at the same time.

Workshop manual says

Generator no-load performance

RPM Amps/D.C. (calculated watts using online calculator)

1200 8.6a (116w)
2000 13.8a (186w)
3000 15.5a (209w)
5000 16.4a (221w)
6000 16.6a (224w)

Battery voltage = 13.5V

I have lights on my '11 and a dash with a voltage display in it and it never seems to drop even with all lights and the grip heaters on.
