  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Can the sixth gear from the TE be added to the tranny of a TC 449?

TC449 with a BMW transmission would be interesting for sure. My bike is basically a race modded TC511 with a BMW transmission in it. Having the engine apart allows me to modify the cases to accept back flow off the breather bottle and we can mod your crankshaft while we are there. Might be easier for you to have BMP pull the engine and send it to us. It's up to you, it will be open for discussion.

What would these services cost including suspension ?

Labor on the engine is $400 plus parts. The crank mod is $120 if the rod bearing and crank are in good shape. I highly recommend this on all 449's, increasing the life of the rod bearing, rings and cylinder. You will have to order the transmission parts from BMW, I can provide you with all of the part numbers needed.

Suspension labor forks and shocks is $320, plus parts and oil. I have a breakdown for suspension pricing here: http://www.ziptyracing.com/services/

I'm currently changing this machine into a more "dual purpose" scooter. I'm trying out a 45t on the rear. Anyone have any input or opinion on this? I'm also going down to an 18" wheel in order to have some options for tire choice. I'm curious about this 6th gear addition. Last question: What is the max tire width I can go to on the front and rear. I want as fat as I can go on both ends. I really like the Kenda Big Block.
