  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Compliance plate

Has anyone out there ever replaced their compliance plate/sticker before?
I bought my bike a couple of years ago in Victoria, Australia and brought it back to South Australia. Now I am trying to register it but when I took my bike for the inspection the noted that some of the numbers on the sticker have been rubbed away by the cables around the headstem. So, because they can't match that number with the VIN stamped in the frame next to the sticker I can't get it resgistered.

Hi Marty, i'm currently having the same issues, did you ever get this sorted? Part of the problem with these older husky's is that they were never entered into the RAV system when they were imported.

For anyone wondering about the process to get these older huskys registered in Australia read below to save yourself a whole bunch of time and headaches.

If you have a damaged/missing or non-legible compliance sticker and your Husqvarna predates HQVA (Husqvarna’s compliance register) Then chances are your bike was imported by the Paul Feeney group.

If the bike has had full road registration at some point even though you have a missing compliance sticker it won’t be an issue, but if it’s only been rec registered or never registered you only have two ways to get registration.

These older huskys were never entered into the federal NEVDIS system when imported into the country unless road registration was requested at the time of purchase. Rover which replaces this system also has no record given it’s only been active for around 3 or 4 years.

Option 1: Concessional RAV entry approval

You would have to make a case to rover and have it assessed based on information and evidence supplied. Keep in mind that at the time of writing this rover don’t have a process/template for this type of entry. I was told to ignore sections and fill in what I could. Unless option 2 isn’t an available I wouldn’t go down this route.

Option 2: Contact the Homologation Vehicle certification engineer

Aaron Chapman was the Homologation Vehicle certification engineer when the importer changed from Paul Feeney to Husqvarna Australia and Aaron was an absolute pleasure to deal with. I had to provide photos of the VIN and engine number, it cost me $220 to get a letter of compliance which is then given to VicRoads when the vehicle is to be inspected. You still have to get a roadworthy this LOC just tells VicRoads it’s compliant for road use.

Just a quick note a VASS certificate and VIV won’t help you as this was the first thing I was told by VicRoads that I need. The reason being is it wasn’t a modified bike or a repairable write off.

This whole process took me months to work out given there are a lot of people who literally gave wrong information about what is needed to register my bike.

I hope this post helps someone as this has been quite the journey.
