• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

condsidering switch from sportbike to dual sport

Oh, piece of cake then. How are they when haggling for price? Local bike dealerships here do not budge. You're lucky to get them to take enough off of MSRP to cover their fees and get OTD right at MSRP. There's no getting them to throw in any free gear or anything. If you get a t-shirt, you did well.

You're not likely to haggle a deal on a 630 for a long time. It is the hot new (rare) bike after all.

About the only deal you might get is waving setup fees etc.

How do you do that? I'm pretty much a 2nd gear only guy. First comes up so fast it scares me, and I rev through it too quick..
Here's my first honest wheelie on dirt:

Dunno if it counts with a paddle tire though:excuseme:

I 'practice' pretty much every day but I still suck at it, and I can't shift. I think I'm still a little 'chicken' of looping and when I get it 'right' I let off.

Paddle tires count!!!

wheelies in the lower gears are a little hairy sometimes ... And shifting while up is very cool and allows for longer stuff and it makes the bike seems like it was supercharged at that moment as the RPMs drop on the engine and the speed jumps up and the wind sound changes greatly ... you'll love this :)

Here is what I used to like doing as a grasshopper ...

Pop the front tire up in ~third ...walk it and then let the tire come down with no shifting... then change gear with the wheel on the ground and pop it up in this gear also and walk it again ... Do this thu 5th - 6th gear ... 3-6th gives you 4 wheelies in a row

It looks really cool as each wheelie should get longer with the speed and gear build up plus the 3rd & 4th gear stuff are just practice for the 5th gear wheelie where you have plenty of speed and power left in the engine ...

PS -- the only real deals I see on bikes are the demo models or models left over from the previous year ....

Well, it's a done deal. My ZX-10R was ridden off by its new owner tonight and I have put a deposit down on a TE630!

Sweet! Congratulations  Any idea when your new 630 will be delivered?

I've been riding streetbikes for over 20 years, most of them sportbikes, and I can honestly say I'll never purchase another one. They just aren't fun on the street anymore. I have way more fun on my 610 when on pavement than any other streetbike I've ever owned. I'll bet it's the same for you, too :)

I'm buying from Hall's Cycles, which is 450 miles away. They are shipping the bike to the local BMW dealership for me, assembled and ready to ride (it turns out it's cheaper for me to ship it than it is to go get it myself).

Hall's says they are expecting the bikes to ship to them tomorrow. I don't know when they'll receive them.

I still have to wait for the funds to clear from my ZX-10R sale before I can apply for a new loan as well, but that should only take a few days.

From my extensive mountain biking background and the fact that I've always had a thing for dirt riding, there's no doubt in my mind that this bike is going to be full of good times.

I was just getting bored with the roads around here, couldn't afford track time, and was constantly pushing my luck with the "go to jail" speeds required to fully use a sportbike. I figured I should count my blessings and move on.

Sweet !!! I have a Daytona 955 and I must say crotch rockets are really just death waiting to happen ...Great bikes but they should be on tracks only ... I really can't see why the states allow them on the road as they have no real purpose on the streets other than they can roll ... Mine is for sale and I'm glad I rode it and got to feel how they ride and the engines (as it is unbelievable) but I'll be happy to never ride it again ... ":)

Never rode a big dual sporter, but I'd be willing to bet that your Husky will be fine on many back roads ... Dirt ESP

Good luck on the trails!

Congratulations to the new TE630. Enjoy your new ride.
