  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

125-200cc CR or WR? Need advise quick....

If your around 190 lbs. you'd better jump on a WR 250  The small bores are fun but if i had to ride one, i'd need to enroll in freakin' zumba class or somethin'!
I weigh about 190 and know quite a few people who weigh as much as 230lbs that ride the small bore Huskies.
The 144cc just run great and the 165cc runs great everywhere with huge low end. Feels like a weaker 250. Main thing is that it is lighter. The CR does NOT weigh 20lbs less either. Maybe 10lbs. My bike, ready to ride, no gas weighs 216lbs. That is with oil and all enduro gear installed.

I weigh 200lbs now, but I was up to 225 and still rocked the 125 (not 144 or 165). No issues at with the power and I ride in steep mountains. Anyway, the handling and braking more than make up for any motor shortcomings IMO.

In fact, I rode my wr300 yesterday and didn't really enjoy it. It handles like dog doo and the power is a liability more than a asset. At least where I ride.
After my trip to the Sierra's next month I think its going up for sale. Fat ass small bore lover here!

Dwight,

My '12 WR was 222 without gas. More now that I have added protection and stuff. They list the CR at 202 without gas. It certainly feels light riding it.

I tend to like Open Chamber forks better. Plusher feel and longer services between oil changes. Not much oil in cartridge of a closed chamber fork. I know some shops that don't even change the cartridge oil when they service the forks and that is the oil that takes the beating. The other oil is just for lubrication.

Just serviced a set of Yamaha TC 48mm Kayabas and both the cartridge o-rings and piston itself had failed....the cartridges were both dry.

Is the same TC System in the Husky?

You sure? I weighed mine without gas. All lights and barkbusters and enduro computer. 216lbs. That was with Pirelli Scorpion Pro front tire and MX Extra 100/100X18 rear.

Dwight mine was box stock off the showroom. It wasn't completely dry but there was maybe .5 gallons in there. So say 3 lbs - 219. They have added some stuff for 12 that you shouldn't have. Steering lock blank, thermostat, some extra structure on the frame to house the new ignition, etc. Not a huge difference but it probably adds up to what we are seeing. It still feels lighter than my 09 did, that does weigh less. Go Figure.
