• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Curious who has the most miles so far!

That is interesting on the 91 octane. Do you have ethanol in the gas you use? I use 93 with 10% ethanol. All you can get here in Florida. You can get non ethanol for boats though but not higher grades just 87.

I think every station I fill up at is 10%.

I am currently at 10k miles and experiencing heavy vibrations from the motor to say the least. Curious how many miles and if the higher mileage owners have noticed this increase?

I'm at 11.5k miles. Starting to feel heavier vibrations, too. It's mostly at the 3-4k rpm range. Above and and below it feels normal.

What mods do you have, and/or what's maintenance been like? I did the Pod Mod, and I'm hoping that can reduce the valve wear. Was 6k mile valve inspections really necessary?

Thanks. I'll check all of them but keep a particular eye on that one.

I'm just over 1,800 miles right now.

I'm at 2,760 miles now. I recently noticed a bit of extra vibes and checked all the motor mount bolts. The top ones were tight but I pulled and loctited them anyways. I did find the lower rear mounting bolt a bit loose, it snugged up about a 1/3 of a turn or so. The front 2 bolts were pretty snug.

The swingarm pivot bolt was uber tight, no issues there.

Just did a 12k mile valve inspection. All four valves were adjusted at 6k to be at biggest gap allowable. They're all now dead in the middle.

Things of note: I cleaned throttle body insides (stupid airbox!) and performed a Pod Mod on it at around 7k miles. the TB innards are as clean as the last time I took it apart, which tells me the pod mod is doing it's job.
Each valve wore almost exactly .03mm in 6k miles, which should put them at the narrowest of their range for the 18k checkup, so I'm expecting to do adjustments then.
I don't do much off-road, or dusty environments. I live in the PNW.
Ran AMSOIL 10W-40 Motorcycle oil instead of 10W-50, as arecommended. Minimal parts wear debris on the drain plug magnet. MUCH less than at the 6k inspection.

Tentative conclusion: Pod Mod gives TR650 12k Valve checkup interval. :D
