• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

cycleing shorts under off road pants

A guy told me about waring bicycle shorts under your off road pants to make the seat more manageable while dual sporting. I love my te 450 but if I have to sit for any time it kills me. Any body tried this?.

I have heard that a sheepskin seat cover helps too. I personally switched out to Guts Racing soft foam on my TE450 seat. It made it a lot more bearable on long rides.

Cycling shorts only cover a little past your tail bone with a small layer of extra padding. I can see it helping, much cheaper than buying a new seat, or remaking it. But I would not expect a world of difference, it will just help offset some of the abuse.

cycling shorts are the best mod ever! Seriously, I went from being tender in the seat area to not even noticing after a 3 or 4 hour off road ride. I stole the idea from my time racing a bicycle. You can't wear underwear with them though or the seams in your undies will undo the work of the chamois. I don't dual sport though. Strictly off road.

...helps keep 'monkey butt' at bay!! ...
I ALWAYS wear my padded cycling pants under my dirt bike pants - primarily to ward off "Monkey Butt" and chaffing of the inner thighs. Dunno if it makes the seat any more comfortable to be honest... it can't hurt to try though. You shouldn't be sitting enough for this to be a problem though ;-)

I've used cycling shorts but found the Nike Pro Combat shorts with the padding to be better...corked thighs are really a prick to ride with!!

I wear this....
Helps with chaffing everywhere from everything, under my pressure suit, from my neck brace, monkey butt, knee guards...
I never get a dusty face either.
Also use vaseline up in there.

The biggest downside is the negative attention received when getting ready for a ride in a crowded campsite. Its like noone has ever seen a man in a spandex suit with a tub of vaseline in his hand before. Some people are just sheltered I guess :excuseme:

I used to use the padded bicycle shorts, but the padding has a tendency bunch up & it gets uncomfortable. Nike & Under Armor sell compression shorts that seem to suit me better, no bunching up at the crotch & no monkey booty

I have been wearing gel padded bycycle shorts for almost 2 years now, best thing I did, I have recently added a pair of wicking compression shorts next to my skin, and then the gel padded shorts, so that the gel shorts can slide around instead of bunching and chafing in one spot.

Yep, I converted to the padded bike shorts 4 years ago. It makes a huge difference (remember, no undies).

Thanks guys I'll try the shorts. This is my first dual sport and love the bike and never sit the seat when off road but this is a new experience riding on road with a small cc bike. Anything would help and is cheaper than repadding a seat. Thanks again.

I train on bicycle and raced bikes for 7 years and do not wear chamois on the motorcycle. My seat has the padding where the bicycle seat (classic Flite) does not. My bicycle clothing breathes, since it's not under another layer, allowing some wind to attempt to dry a soggy chamoois. The last thing I want is a wet chamois underneath my pants. I chose to wear 3/4 length compression pants as a base layer. http://www.virusintl.com/index.html (note the Stay Cool 3/4 length pants I wear for SoCal are not listed but I've confirmed they have them and it's an oversight on the website) They breathe and allow your pants to move and not get bunched up on tops of legs and elsewhere. I have probably 20 pairs of cycling bibs and some still new but the worst case of saddle sores and "monkee Butt" will come from wet, soggy,, bacteria laden chamois as it chafes.. IMO. BTDT on long training rides and I find a good breathable base layer such as compression pants works best FOR ME. At the 3/4 length also gives my knees some support and my pants then can "float" instead of bind. I looked at the Nike Combat as well as Forcefield shorts, as I wear a Forcefield Pro Shirt as a base layer, but shy away from chamois as if it's not good fitting and flat lock stitched, etc... Can be more a problem than a savior, again IMO. It's really all very personal what works and what doesn't. Try them and see for yourself. Just note that every pair of bicycle shorts is cut differently and same with the chamois. Some are good and placement is good and some really suck. Some are relieved in areas to combat excess pressure under the "parts" so you need to be selective and since returning underwear can be a problem, you may spend a bit finding that perfect pair..

since forever w/ baby powder. and, few years ago i went to the EVS ultimate padded short. really good thigh protection. i wont ride w/o them now. i thighed the bar (i think it was) once on a 4th gear get off tank slapper big wipe out rang my bell yard sale thingy.... i'da broke my leg if not for them shorts. jsut got a deep monster bruise. also spun out in a fast dez sweeper corner, slid and ripped the seat outa my AXO pants going thru some pucker bushes. the EVS padded shorts (crotch) saved some important stuff.

i cannot even begin to imagine riding off-road w/o these things****************************************!

thank you EVS!!!

seriously- you need to get these shorts. they can literally save your day. or your marriage!

I wear cycleing shorts evertime I ride. I think it helps alot. And I ride my bicycle 50-100 miles at a time. You can't do that without some good shorts.
