• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Leading the pack of 50+ Cat 2 just past the corkscrew in 2008 if I remember correctly ;-) ... Used Voler for our team for a few years, though I prefer Garneau for my last team. Solid compression bibs and their perforated gel chamois has stood up well. There are so many brands and each changes their chamois designs yearly with new fabrics and cuts. Each year designing the kit and selecting the manufacturer was a PIA. As was my job as designer/racer. Yearly samples for chamois and fit were mandatory. 55882_1482404107285_5652982_o.jpg

I like the EVS padded lycra shorts, or the Moose Racing ones, etc. But I can't stand the "panty liner" pad in the crotch area, it is hot and restrictive, two things I don't want there. I carefully cut the stiching out and remove it. Huskies are king of the Monkey Butt and while I stand 90% of the time, in winter Iceracing you sit a majority of the time and slide forward/backward a lot = life-threatening Monkey Butt! For those special injuries I always go with Desetin diaper rash ointment. Way better than vaseline, but same consistency.

On that note ...

Though when needed I use Assos or Chamois Buttr but not liberally. You do want the skin to breathe not be a festering of fungus!
Oh man this stuff works like you would not believe. I was in real pain until our trainer told me about this stuff. Now I mix it with a little DZnuts as well. What a COOL feeling.. Oh yeah!!!

Thanks and great comeback PVDuke. I had to stop racing as I could not sit on the rivet any longer! Had to train though so raced SUP for the last few years. This year decided I needed a dirt bike ;-) (photo-Bruce White) That's G. Lopez next to me as we bumped rails onto the beach/finish.

bag balm- too easy to confuse with the tiger blam for CX racing...and if you've ever made that mistake?????? ya wont again!!! eeeeyyyeeeee!

Man you guys are all studs you actually race bicycles!!-and stand up paddleboards!!
Bag balm is good stuff, but all Ive been using is plain old vaseline to keep the monkey butt monster at bay. Also on moto I use the EVS padded MX designed compression under shorts, the bicycle ones have a different shape and the pad is even different and feels like a turd in my shorts (I have bicycle shorts I tried to use under moto gear). I'm happy with the EVS ones for moto.

I always wear padded cycling shorts. I've had Gut's seats as well but Seat Concepts seats are far more comfy IMO-way better than any pads and costs barely more than a good pair of cycling shorts.

I also use riding shorts made for motorcycles. The bicycle ones have a different cut that doesn't work for me. In fact I still have & use my MSR shorts from the early 80's. Just wondering how long they will last. With all the different companies making riding shorts i didn't think any1 would be out there just wearing their tighty wighties, haha.
Oh yea, Bag Balm is great for all kinds of stuff........

Wearing padded cycling shorts under my riding pants is the only way I can ride my husaberg for longer than 3 hours with-out serious monkey-butt setting in. My husky is better but I can still feel it after a whole day in the saddle.

I wear bike shorts under my riding gear all the time. The key to riding shorts is finding a pair that fits you correctly. There are so many brands and styles that you should be able to find a pair that fit well, and allow you to have natural movement without any bunching or tightness. And when it gets hot, I am a desitin fan. Makes it easy to get back to being a desk jockey on Mondays....
