  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Damper post with IMS tank?

here's a picture of what George at Uptite sent me. It was a huge relief to get the stabilzer setup completed. Now, only if the IMS tank fit with the shrouds in a better way.

If that is the TE250 in his shop, that tank has major room behind the head tube and has no rear ride up problem. If mine will not fit right I will heat and mold as needed. If that kills the tank, so be it, I'll get another tank or I'll go back to stock for a while.

Modification makes it work

Ok, George and I had time to hammer this one out. As you can see there is zero room for the Steering clamp on my bike 08 TE450/IMS/Black purchased in 08 when they first came out.

The first step was to remove all items, pulling tank, install steering ring/post and tank to check for clearance.

Looks like is going to be rough.
DSC02115.jpg

Riding up and about 3/8ths off the rear pin mounts.

Lets try a different approach and see if we can get it on.
Looks like this might work.
DSC02116.jpg

Nope, pushes up still in the rear.

Looking for the witness.

Now we break out the artillery.
DSC02119.jpg

The nose on the tank seems to be pretty thick in material so we decided a little file wouldn't hurt.

Houston, we have a match!
DSC02127.jpg

Pull the tank off again and measure for the post size. (May need cutting, and did by 3/16ths.)
DSC02122.jpg

Check the alignment.
DSC02123.jpg

Drill a dimple for the grub/set screw.
DSC02125.jpg

Install tank "again".

Tighten and button up all loose ends.
DSC02133.jpg

She is tight but on now.

And there it is.

It can be done with minor modification to the tight tank. George at Up-tite is one of (probably only) guys on the Husky team doing allot of Research and Development for the brand, a top notch guy and full of information as stated before. This unit will work on allot of models that have the oversized tanks. I highly recommend this product.

I took her for a 60 mile dirt loop after the 40 mile tarmac from Up-tite and back, and she lets me get in over my head for loose, rocky fire roads.

Thanks

Thanks for the great write up and detailed pictures. I have one of the early tanks as well on my 08 TE510 and have the same clearance issue as you. I have been waiting to see some pics of a tank the same as mine before I pulled the trigger on this. Looks like it is time to give George a call.

Just installed the BRP undermount on my 09 TCX and it works great!! It is a tight fit for the post but it works.

So are the new ims tanks made any different? They fit now with some minor mods? Has any gotten a motosportz damper to work with an ims tank?

I don't have the Motosportz but, if anyone has one near me and would like to try it out with the Up-tite post, give me a call.
