    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Dealership Woes

First, too bad on your bike.. . Too bad on the head aches also ... I quit buying new and stopped letting anyone work on ~any stuff of mine unless it is impossible to do it myself. Just got tired of the lying and incompetent work from most places of business.

You might wanna just sell that bike and move on with your life. Myself, I don't see anyway things for these ~one-off bmw bikes are gonna get any better in the future. Reality is no parts, no more husky company really, and no reason for the new company owners to do much (except for a law suit) ...

Many just part out their huskies because they can't sell their entire bike. You might could be the first to part out that bike.

Good luck and might be best to get the main-stream bike like a Triumph or Yamaha. They both make very good bikes and support them. Gotta be lots on the web sites for them also where husky owners are again, very limited with 2(?) web sites :( .
 
If the dealer says the factory does not cover alternate transportation then ask the dealer/owner who you need to talk to at the factory. That offers two answers. they will offer to help you or you call the factory via a lawyer.
Rent a car, go to work, and keep all your expense receipts.
Worked at big time auto dealers for 40 years so I know you can do this if you can prove your case well and don't act like an A--hole.

I have had nothing but great success by contacting the Dealer License Board if the dealer won't cooperate. What's your take on that?
 
So the ECU is confirmed that it was shorted out on the positive terminal of the battery. I will find out tomorrow what the lead time will be to send it off and get it rebuilt? Not sure if that is possible or they will send a new one. This is not really a factory problem as we only get a one year warranty here in the states. This would be a dealership problem.

I think those vary state to state but if delay is caused by the dealer they will loose in small claims court. Those judges don't care much for dealerships.
 
So I went to look at motorcycles today and I think I am looking between a triumph tiger 800xcx, Ktm adventure R, or Yamaha FJ09. Leaning towards the triumph as it does have the new wp offroad suspension more dealers and reliability seems to be good. The Yamaha has 26000 mile valve checks but no cruise and really no off road work. KTM really explains itself almost like buying the TR650 all over again change intake, do modifications to make it right and low dealer network. Any inputs?
 
First off your gonna have the same problem if you dont do research on your local dealer....

Find the strongest local dealer with good product knowledge.... not just salesmanship but parts and service also.....

Then pick a bike.... the triumph network is TINY and parts supply bad.... i've worked at 2 large triumph dealers.....

Out of the 3 you mentioned find a good dealer.... then all three make good bikes....

Yamaha Super tenere would be a better choice then FJ
 
Yeah I looked at the super Tenere and not really looking to go to 600lbs yet. I like the middle weight adventure bikes as far as size. I think I will be going for the 2015 Triumph tiger 800xcx mainly for lighter weight decent power great suspension and cruise control if the numbers work.
 
Not to trying to be mean, but I wouldn't be surprised if they try to charge you for the new ECU! I'd make sure in advance that they aren't going to try that.
 
FWIW I would choose a Triumph 800 XRX.
I prefer tubeless tires and 19/17's work good enough on the type of stuff I am willing to take a $12,500/476 lb bike through.

Oh, how did they short out the ECU on the battery terminal?
Was it from a wrench?
They should not have removed it, right?
 
Actually the 800xcx is a 21" front tire and 17" rear with WP higher quality offroad suspension. THey said they are not sure how it is was shorted but did see where some thing arcked off the battery terminal. No they should have not removed the ecu to do the valve check and I do not think they did. ALthough if they learn from there mistakes maybe take the battery out from now on would be better. Maybe even put the battery on a trickle charger to stay fresh while they work on it would be attention to detail because when I went two days later they left the key on and battery was dead. We all know with these batteries you leave it dead too long and it will permanently be dead. I am currently working numbers and have got close to satisfaction and moving forward. Maybe this will be taken care of and not as bad as I originally planned it would go. The sales manager Rob who says is new seems to be a good guy to work with. Huel the service manager is a good guy to work with as well. It was going to cost me $250-300 for rear tire, tube, rim strip, rear bearings/seal, and install new 3d airbox when they did the valve adjustment. That is a decent price. Frying the computer was obviously the set back.
 
LOL I was thinking you said XCX when you really said XRX. There is a difference in the two but I feel for the $1000 difference the XCX is a far better deal. $12,500 vs $13,500.
 
Well the numbers have been agreed upon at this point just waiting on a White 2015 Triumph tiger 800 XCX to arrive any day. The only problem is I will not be able to enjoy this forum as much with a triumph. I have looked into the other forums and the lay out is no where near as good as this site. Also the members here are excellent when it comes to helping each other. For just getting back into riding motorcycles this forum was exactly what I needed for this bike. The best one is in the UK. Luckily there is not the unknown no dealer supported fixes for the Triumph.

I used to use the Tiger1050.com forum and I know they started a 800 version when it came out. Was very good back then so check it out and enjoy that Tiger!!
 
Well not a tiger owner yet. Agreed on numbers on friday and then got a call on Monday they want to renegotiate. We will see today how this goes. Evidently the owner of the two stores decided he did not want to except the deal after the sales manager did. LOL Brings me back to the car dealership days.
