• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Different Radiator for TE630 possibly TE/TC250

In turn you'll just be filling up the overflow bottle as the radiators keeps the water level at that same level.
And then you're diluting the coolant and letting coolant flow out the top of the overflow bottle.

It really is just an overflow, not a reservoir. There's no way to keep any amount of coolant in that funky little tank...

The Yammie may be getting hot (hotter than the husky) too, it's just the yamaha doesn't have water cooling so there's nothing to boil over to tell you it's HOT.
Also, remember the 630 makes a lot more power than the yamaha (power = heat)

What conditions are you in when your 630 "overheats"? (and do you know what temp the engine is getting?)

Don't get OEM radiators, the ones that i have are welded aftermarket and hence (in theory...) are less prone to leaking For example: http://tinyurl.com/pxdvjrd . OEM te250 radiators i presume will be similar if not the same as the stock 630 radiators

Is there a reason why you can't get radiators from ebay?

An oil cooler/extra fan is on the long list of to do's...

good point...i never had a valid measurement to actually say it runs cooler than the 630 :/

the 630 overheats at rush hour in bumper to bumper traffic...my commute is only about 15km one way and it takes me 30 mins to an hour...so average speed is pretty much a jog. but boy do I love the occasional empty stretch of tar though it's only about 5-10% of the time. the average air temperature here is 30 deg celcius btw.

and good to know about the oem rads...thanks!

my inability to shop on ebay is cause my paypal has been disactivated ages ago. i'm too lazy to sort a new one out. but i guess it's a must these days.

Oh, and i had the problem of always topping off the radiator too (the service manager told me off after the first service  ). In the workshop manual they specify that the tanks run a little lower than full-to-the-brim.

In turn you'll just be filling up the overflow bottle as the radiators keeps the water level at that same level.

damn, I thought it was a reservoir the way cars are. another new thing i learned today!
i noticed that the manual shows a pic of the coolant being just a little over the fins, but thought there's a way for the coolant in the res (or overflow) to find it's way back up, so i was filling both the rad AND the bottle...silly me

It is exactly the same as a car reservoir! Heat expansion causes the fluid to burp into the overflow. When the rad cools down the fluid gets sucked back in.

Yep, we've got "standard" 2-way radiator caps, it's just that if you try to keep any amount of fluid in the reservoir, it won't stay there for long... It either evaporates out or ends up dribbling all down your clutch cover.

CODYs - I'm running GPI radiators for a te250 from ebay, seem to be holding up quite well (and a few members report on their durability Here http://www.cafehusky.com/threads/chinese-radiator-upgrade.29321/)
Although with the poor finish quality you can see why they're cheap.

I have

Numerous times when doing dirt trails between 0 and 10km/h (i guess guys in the US may call it single track) with guys on 250's and 450's
The new radiators didn't seem to make much difference in cooling capability but i wasn't expecting any. More like it needs another fan (or even oil cooler) if I want to do that stuff

But I don't think the 630 was designed for that. Fun none the less :D

Thanks! I will give those a try. I've seen that they can match up ok but the fan may need some adjustments. My fabricating isn't what you'd call "professional" quality. Oh well!

I have to ask what kind of coolant do you use? I ride my 09 610 in the woods and that's harder than any road riding. I have never had it over heat or " blurp " fluid.

I'm w/ this fella- never had my 630 overheat or burp and I have put it through some real dead of summer stop and go city situations (which I try to avoid) and also in some tight singletrack on hot summer days. Always makes me a bit uncomfy as I can feel the searing heat but my fan comes on and it's not burping anything....seems to take it just fine. BTW I'm using BMW OEM coolant. It's not something I'd stand by (in that I don't think it's any better than anything else and certainly not worth paying a premium for)- it's just what I had laying around the house.

Before installing the aftermarket radiators - whatever they used at the factory
After installing the aftermarket radiators - This stuff: http://tinyurl.com/lj4h4n8

I partly agree with DYNOBOB, my bike is probably running lean with stock exhaust and PU plug (I intend to get a PCV in the near future) but the fact that my bike gets hot is also coupled with the prolonged slow speeds of some of the riding I was doing

^This...My bike hardly ever see clear roads and it's summer all rear round down here. And since I use it for my commute, it'll only be on the road during rush hour.

I'm gonna be installing a PU kit and use engine ice very soon. Hopefully this weekend, and hopefully there's significant change.

If not, I might have to cough up $500 for a PCV (yes, it's that expensive down here :banghead: )

Max, what's the average temperature in Adelaide? Jakarta's around 30C

What would a JD tuner run you? They're cheaper...

I've only seen one for a TE449. It's used and the owner wants Rp.3,950,000 for it, which is a little over $400.
I guess nothing imported will ever be cheap down here

That's a hell of a lot of mark up.

Can't you just buy from them directly and have it shipped?

yea tell me about it...

I could but there's still the 30% import tax and the crazy shipping fees...I'm trying to weigh my risks in case the delivery fails and lose a ton of money, or pay $100 more for a guaranteed shipment from a local seller.

BTW, got the PU kit installed and so far no sign of coolant squirting out the res...BUT, I wasn't in a jam today even though it's close to 40C out. hopefully this goes well.

Oh yeah, sorry to the OP for jacking your thread! :D

What's wrong with this picture?

I was able to get a local metal shop to flip the side plate. So far so good with the tc250 radiator. With the help of paypal claims I did get what I wanted back from GPI which ended up paying for the welder. :applause:

Just to resurrect this thread, I've just ordered a set of these rads as part of my winter rebuild, and so I can get the spare 630 rebuilt with the parts I salvaged from it to keep the race bike running.

Ok 6 month update, or just about. Not good. I ordered the radiators if memory serves me correctly from a shop in Riverside CA. was riding yesteday and kept hearing a clicking noise at deceleration, but it was random when it would happen, so I strated looking around and I found that the left radiator had broken, not the fins/flutes to where it was leaking but at the upper radiator cap and radiator frame. I'm thinking just a bad weld. I'm going to pull it and take it to the shop to see if they can repair. I'll take photo's before and after.

typical.. mine just arrived and it turns out there may be a weakness in the frame weld ;)
