• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Do you have a secret riding area?

The BLM is closing down land here and using shady tactics and lies to do it. We hate the BLM in California. SAVE CLEAR CREEK!

That's for sure...the latest meetign is to address the latest proposal or "thought" they've had about the Johnson Valley/29 Palms MB expansion...apparently their new idea is to use the land in question 2 months out of the 12 for their training excersizes...use July and August since theyr'e th hottest months HOWEVER...with that said, what we expect them to do/say is "Since we've droped live ordinance out there it'd be a shamer if anyone were to be hurt of kiled by unexploded ordinance...so it should be closed indefinately".....Booooo Hisssssss Why not expand north of Fot Irwin (Barstow area) where they're already using it for the same thing.

Here in Nevada about 90% of the state is owned by BLM , which means public land. I've never had any problems as long as you use common sense. This equates to thousands of miles of various terrain. I love it here. All are welcome.

Go on, rub it in why don't you?

We've got some 70 million in a country probably the size of Nevada, doesn't leave a lot of room for fun

Come down to Devon some time, the TRF is really active here (which may, or may not, be a good thing in your opinion...) and I have managed a couple of rides recently of about 100 miles of which probably 80% is off tarmac. All of the lanes are in quite a small radius from home, too. Devon County Council is quite encouraging of bike riders as they do some of the maintenance that would otherwise fall to the council.

However you are right, we are a very crowded country with very vocal, powerful landowners. I think if pheasant shooting's your game you'll be fine but dirty smell noisy motorbikes, all ridden by oiks and yobs, tearing up the countryside and polluting the clean country air are something else entirely!

Cheers

Simon, excellent post. Yes would love to take you up on that opportunity sometime. I've owned a Suzuki TS100, a DT250MX and a Suzuki ER250 so am no stranger to the off road scene. Am def not constricted to SM mate. I love all bikes and all chances to ride. I think the guys in the US have amazing possibilities compared to us but it's real good to know that trail riding is alive and kicking here in Blighty. And real encouraging to have the support of the Council. Like it

I was talking to the local guy in charge of our FS travel plan for the Bitterroot National forest(he is a golfing fool). His statement was that in the new travel plan nothing had really changed from the 2002 plan except that they closed a lot trail to single track motorcycle use. I was flabbergasted but he could offer no official reason other than "The trails aren't being used by the bikes so we are closing them". What G*d damn planet is he living on............He is going to get wet alot this summer.

I love radio controlled individual head control.

We have now been cut from the 1500 miles of non-wilderness trail 20 years ago to less than 150.

I was out there in 2009, it was a Jeep Cherokee road trip. Took in S Dakota, Denver, Colorado mountains, awesome. We met some good people, including a trip out in a Suburban with a member of Denver PD. Got to a hockey game at Rapid City too. There was always the intention to do some riding as 2 of us had bike licenses but it never worked out due to time constraints. Funny thing you mention that though as my gf said about it the other day re CH and making connections etc. I've done 3 trips in Europe and would love to explore some of the US one day. Running a business leaves little time but it's def on the things to do list

Question on sharing trails with friends.

I took a new riding buddy, that I trust, to a trail that a only a few people seem to know about. The only evidence of bikes is our own tracks. I texted a picture of the snow we were riding through to the buddy I found the trail with. He flips out saying I should know better. I then explained to him that I went through the situation of being quite about this area with the newbie (whom he does not know). He claims that since the newbie is on a forum that is local, he will spill the beans and post pictures and gps coordinates, etc. The newbie has my full confidence being cool about the knowledge. He rides with me and our other buddies who are on the same page. The newbie will not post stuff like this online. But the old riding buddy is being a D*** about it. I have been trying to ween myself riding with the old riding buddy due to him effecting my fun factor with him, him being late everytime by at least an hour, and his to cool for others attitude.

How do you think I should handle this situation? I see his side but don't completely agree since I trust the other guy and our friends whom haven't been to the "slice of heaven".

Seems simple to me. Secret trails mean no pics, no posting, no camera/phone/gps/wifi coffee house status updates. When I go to trails with new friends and these trails are of the "secret" variety it is always made perfectly clear at the truck that this trail is to be enjoyed, not cataloged.

Secret trails should be kept secret unless everyone agrees to let someone in. A year or two later that same newbie that remembers those excellent trails may bring his own friend. Who knows?

Yeah I would not disclose any exact secret riding locations. There are several spots I like riding hard to get into but once your in it is heaven.

I always take pictures of secret trails, unless they have very recognizable landmarks. I know that if you recognize the spot in the picture, then you already know how to get there anyway. I talk about the "secret legit" trail all the time on different forums and take loads of enviable pictures, but I never tell where it is or how to get there (even though it is legal to ride there). Since it takes a modest amount of work to find, plus gate opening and closing, people just haven't discovered it.

Northern California is our secret riding area. A pic from yesterday. :D PC100016.JPG The 630 sure can haul a** off road! A little more body english needed then the other two TE's, but still a fine dirt bike, imo.

Well My secret place is out my back door.
My wife made 99% of all the trails. We ride horses as well.
anyway people moved in and drive like idiots so we will not ride our horses down the road.
fortunately My bike isn't to skitish.
the timber companys official stance is "we will not give written permission. But! if you maintain and cause no damage we will not seek to stop you.
So we maintain and keep things clean.
Lower trails about ten miles Upper trail one I clocked was 24 miles across the mountain.
Lot more than that.
If I knew how to post pics I would show the views

After having mtn. biked and hiked several sections of stellar trail here in southern Oregon, I began to wonder if these amazing and quiet tracks were legal to ride my txc on.I discovered on that amazing world wide web that the trails are indeed motorized legal! I've gently ridden these trails now for over three months (day and night), never seen another hiker, cyclist, or motorcyclist using the trails. I think I may have been hit in the skull, died, and without knowing, arrived in my own version of heaven. I don't think this is a secret. I just think, thankfully, that there's no "hype". I really like good stuff.

I got some secret GNARLY hill climbs that my old man and his buddies used to hit back in the day. They are ridden 1-2 times a year, and are 3 gear screamers that extremely hard. Problem is, they are 3.25 hrs from where I live, and there is KILLER riding around here... Hence only getting ridden a couple times a year.

In the 90's, they took an old video camera, and bolted it to the side of a helmet. This thing was so big and bulky, they had to bolt diving weights to the opposite side of the helmet to balance it out. I have the footage here somewhere... Maybe I'll get abitious and post it.
