    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Hi Guys,
I have been wanting a screen a bit taller for road duty. The situation on accessories is asa we all know not good....So, I took up tools...not in the van the Terraformers did but simple hand tools....
Utility knife, bench grinder hand held heat gun .....A piece of Lexan from my local Lowes and some automotive door edge guard to make it purty......First off I laid the black shield over the lexan to start a template....then the heat gun to put the bend in the middle....then I went to the bench grinder to spruce up the bottom and top of it all....I used the heat gun a second and third time to get the bends down at the bottom of it where the bottom two screws go through....After all of the angles were covered I laid the shield under the lexan and used a marking pen to locate where the screw holes would be placed..... A pilot hole was made for each place then opened to the correct size and last of all the edge moulding installed around the screen{its not just lexan any more its a screen now}and used a pair of side cutters to trim....I'll try to attach photos.....If I can do it anyone can...

VERY nice! Looks a lot like the factory screen I just installed. What did this project run you, if you don't mind me asking?
 
If anyone is trying to duplicate this, please be sure to use the Lexan (polycarbonate) and not the acrylic. They look the same and are right next to each other in the store, but the acrylic will shatter where the Lexan will bend. I'd hate to be running down a rough road and have it break apart.
 
Great job. I was thinking of making mine with a dark tint to keep sunlight off the instrument panel. Is there any way to stop the edge guard from bulging around the radius of the corners? Can a heat gun shrink or form it?
 
I've got lots of spare lexan at the house, and have been thinking of just such a build. A bandsaw works great for cutting lexan, just use fine teeth and push it slowly. You can actually achieve somewhat of a polish on the edges by sanding them with ever increasing grits of sandpaper.
 
Well had time to get out on the Terra today, no turbulence and no ill effects from it either, I really don't think it made any difference.....except the looks department.....
 
I think I paid $69 for the shield on mine, and I really like it. The wind hits me at just about eye ball height and there is not near as much turbulance as without the shield.
