  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

EFM vs Rekluse ?

That is what Gary at EFM told me when speaking specifically about the 449. Maybe I didnt ask the right questions but it was my understanding that the clutch lever has no use and is removed. If that not the case then I would get one seeing its the only option for the 449/511 platform.

EDIT: Just spoke with Gary. Due to the 449/511 clutch design the manual clutch is removed and no longer used or able to be used. I personally dont want a auto clutch without the lever still there. A bit old school I guess.
I see.

I agree that I would not want an auto clutch with no manual override, either.

Here is Garrys response on TE449

"Yes we do them, 695.00 plus shipping, we modify the clutch you send us.

Speigler brake line is where you can buy the rear line, no manual foot pedal.

Im considering this but not sure I want to loose the brake pedal.
I assume the existing clutch master cylinder is simply re-routed to the read brake caliper to make this work.

I don't know if I could get used to two levers there, sure enough Id pull the clutch when I want the brake and the party may be over!!

I dunno about these magic clutches. I kind of put them in the same category as linked brakes and automatic trannys.

I'm sure there are plenty of experienced riders that happily adapt to these systems, but I just don't think they are for me.

If I hopped on a bike with no clutch and no rear brake lever, I'd probably crash for sure! :oldman:

I rode a 449 with an EMF, worked great. Might get one for my 511. For tight technical stuff they would make the 449/511 amazing.

Do you remember if the bike would start in gear or did you have to find neutral. I know technically the bike shouldnt stall but my concern is that it will flame out and I wouldnt be able to restart without taking the time to find nuetral. Not a huge deal trail riding I suppose but during a race it would be a PITA.

If set up right it will start in gear. The 511 I rode needed the JD tuner and some adjusting to the clutch to get it dialed. It now does not flame out and you can start in gear.

Good to know. Thanks! I just received my JD tuner yesterday and am about to go down and install it. I might end up trying the EFM seeing its the only option. I kept holding out for hopes that Rekluse would come through but after speaking with them a couple of times I have come to realize that they have zero plans on making a clutch for the 449/511. Anyone with tuner settings for a '12 TC449? Couldnt find much for this model. Maybe it will do fine with the same settings as the TE/TXC. I will try the recommended settings first and go from there.
