Emission canister removal

Okay I picked up my 09 TE 610 yesterday and have removed the emissions canister. I plugged the port on the intake manifold with a rubber vacuum cap. My question and I haven't found a definitive answer in the index or other threads which deal with its removal is........Do I have to keep the green valve and hose coming from the upper gas tank vent and reroute it down the front down tube to air as many are suggesting or can I simply remove the line all together and plug the upper gas tank vent with another rubber vacuum cap? Or can I just run a new straight piece of rubber tubing from the vent on the gas tank down the the front down tube without the green valve for a cleaner appearance and not deal with green valve in the line? I have blown and sucked on both ends (don't laugh) and in both direction and can't determine the need for the green valve; it seems to be free flowing in either direction.
Do I need to vent the upper gas tank?

Remove the green thing and tee it the tube into the vent directly below it. If the green thing is left hanging it will leak gas at it's level.

Could you please take and post a pic of port you blocked on the intake manifold? As the dealer remove all the emissions stuff but the green thing before I picked up the bike, and still don't know here that port is locate.

Do not use a rubber cap because they can come off easily if the motor backfires or pops back while starting.Remove the brass fitting and put a
screw in it's place using locktite or some orange silicone to seal the threads,If I remember it's a 6mm.And the vent tubes can be teed together and run down the front of the frame under the motor,the longer the better it will dribble when it's full.

On my 08 TE 250 the port is (sitting on the bike), just to the left of the intake boot. In general it's better to remove the valve in the hose that will vent from the cap, over and in front of the radiator.

Thanks. I had unsuccessfully searched for a hole many times, and now know what the screw and lock washer are doing in such an odd place.

Emission canister

Okay, I'm not trying to belabor the point, but here goes my thoughts/and what I did.

I removed the canister, plugged the intake nipple on the intake manifold as seen in the pictures above, and then re-routed the top vent tube with the green valve in it from the top of the gas tank down the front down tube to air underneath the engine. I've read that the upper nipple on the gas tank with the tube and green valve is there to remove the gas fumes which build up in the gas tank to the emission canister. The bottom nipple/vent on the front of the gas tank is there to drain off gas/water in the gas filler well. Now I have read you can't plug the top nipple because you then create issues in fuel supply to the engine by created a closed fuel tank. But I'm reading some that suggest that I just connect the top gas tank vent to the lower gas tank vent, what's with that. I would prefer to do that and not have the additional plumbing, that being the tube with with green valve running down next to the overflow tubing, but is that best thing to do? aren't you creating a closed gas tank and maybe fuel supply issues?

I hope this is all makes sense to all of you. Any thoughts or additional comments, have at it. And thanks for your input already.

I like the idea of the screw and lock washer. I'll wait and see how the vacuum plug and zip tie works before switching. Hadn't read or heard of that yet when I removed my canister.

It seems we've touched on this issue a few other times. I'm surprised you didn't find anything out in your search. Cap the vacuum port (mine is with a rubber cap) and the issue at the top of the tank is resolved with a short piece of hose and and a standard motocross gas cap vent. Mine runs great and has been for over a year without that stuff.

Hate to dig up an old thread, but thought it was better than starting yet another one. I would really like to remove the emmissions canister on my 610, but I am not very clear on how to do it. Is there another thread somewhere (on this site or another) with detailed step by step instructions with pictures? I've seen that sort of thing for other bikes, but not for the 610, and I doubt I will be able to do it without good instructions to walk me through it.

Thanks for the link. That is just what I needed. Not sure why I didn't find it when I searched. As soon as I get my plate on Tuesday, the can will be coming off!
