• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Engine light at 500miles?!

Hey everyone, I'm about 3 weeks into this bike having overheating issues but have came across some very helpfull tips to hopefully get around it so I can keep riding before my first service. After splashing me twice with coolant n going to the max bars on the coolant level once I'm not really happy. So aside that issue I was comin uphill in 3rd gear, slightly heavy on the throttle (after a local buddy told me that 4 to 5oo miles is ok breaking period) at about 7500 k rpms the bike slightly pops n check engine comes on while loosin a noticeable amount of power. I make it to the top of the hill, put in 5th n costed home. I was about 5 miles out, and as I slowly pull up 2 blocks from the house the light clears. Suspicious n mad while lostly gassing at the bike I hop back on n fly up the street. 3 blocks later I stretch 2nd to 500 rpms before redline n light comes on, n 15 seconds later comes off. Should I be worried? Am I unproperly going threw the break in period? Is my lack of burping n coolant/overheating issue have any affect? Or my removal of exhaust baffles at 400miles doing any harm also? N I have yet to plug my owners Manuel in :/ only have a iPad as of right now.. Any kind words please?

Overheating is most likely due to air in the system. Search "burping" in this forum and you will see how to fix this.

Removed baffles? Pegging the tach? And you haven't even changed the oil yet?

The bike runs too lean from the factory. Lean equals heat. And removing the baffles probably makes it run even leaner. You can probably figure the rest of the equation.

And to me part of the reason to keep the revs low during break-in is so that you don't stress the engine with all that dirty, metal-filled oil still in the bike.

What part of the country/world are you in that it gets hot enough to make the overflow puke twice already?

@kjackbrown yea I read up on it last night n spent a good 2 hours this morning doing so. Came to find a full resevuar n empty radiator. Repeatedly went threw the steps but wasn't able to come to a even level of fluid inside the radiator.. Every time the fan kicked n thermostat opened it was just a mess.. Maibe I wasn't doing it righ.

@madDogTR I'm in the unfortunate tristate are where we've had unusual cool weather which surprises me even more as to why I can't ride the bike threw town. I'm bringing it in to the dealer in the am. I just don't think the bike was properly set up from the beginning. Hopefully my improper way of going about the break in period isn't to blame :/

I'm having to use much more effort to understand your situation than I should need to because of the misspelled & incomplete spelling of words.

Are you saying your coolant reservoir was full but your radiator had no coolant?
