  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

So.....I received my ZipTy oil breather and catch can and start to remove my valve cover. First 3 bolts come off easy. Last bolt on clutch side front stripped and I'm on my 3rd day of trying to get this bolt out. Bought all kinds of different tools.....none worked. My next attempt.....use dremel tool and grind top of bolt off to remove valve cover. Hopefully I can then get a pair of vice grips on left over stud to remove it. I'm so pissed!! Why do these bike manufacturers use such soft bolts**************************************** Wish me luck. Had to remove radiator s and wiring out of the way. What a pain in the ass!!!

Should get good purchase on the stub, my technique to get rounded heads and studs out is to drill a hole central and use a torx bit to hammer into the hole heat up the area with blowtorch till it sizzles at the touch of a wet finger then unwind.
Its a pain when things strip keep at it.

Maybe you can get a small pair of these in there, they tighten more the harder you pull. Work well for rounded off bolts.

Also those are shoulder bolts and stop before they seem tight. This keeps them from crashing the rubber seals. Sometimes people try to tighten them more which is bad. Good luck.

Take your dremel with a cut off wheel and cut a slot into the rounded off screw head. turn it into a straight slot head, then use a slotted driver to remove the screw. (an apex slotted or 90deg type slotted driver to get in there.

doing this even allows you to reuse the screw if you cant get or need to order a new one and need to wait. no down time for hardware.

That's what I did. Worked great!! Bolt is out!!!

Then go to the hardware store and buy some real bolts. I hate that some genius decided an 8mm hex was a good idea. You can get that size and thread with a10mm, proof being the breather bolt supplied is just that. Good luck, it sucks when one little bolt ruins your day. Most of us have been there.

its a specialized bolt with a flange that fits in the rubber grommet if I remember correctly. Also no need to over tighten it.

True and true, but the bolt material is soft for the lack of clearance to get a wrench in there. I have always been extremely careful because of this. If I rounded one off I'd go for harder and with a 10mm hex even if I had to special order it. Lucky for you fire Tinken makes sure you get a bolt for the breather so you only need three stock bolts anyway.

It's actually my TXC 449 I sold a year ago. I traded my 13 310TXC for it. Figured I couldn't really sell 310 for much so I offered up the trade and he took it. He only put about 12 more hours on it, 38 total. Race platform......maybe in our faster races. Ty already did the Suspension so it could be. My wife bought me a 15 YZ250FX for Xmas and that made 310 obsolete.
Your recirc kit is pretty slick and was easy to install after finally getting last nightmare valve cover bolt out. Thinking about racing it at Laughlin this month. BITD changed race from tight and fun to crazy fast. While I got your attention.....when I had bike it had the JD jetting programmer on it. Bike was suffering from a bad miss at 3/4 rpm's and up. JD is off now and wondering if I should put it back on or will I suffer from same problem??? Do you guys have a different map that will work with an 11 TXC 449? Looking forward to riding bike again!!

We don't use JD tuners, we use powercommanders, and yes we do have maps available. Not sure on the missing, could be due to a few different things.

Ok, how much more power does you map add? If I send ECU tomorrow, can I get it back early next week? Would rather not mess with hooking up mounting JD stuff.

How's the TXC power? Closer to TC I hope. I don't remember and my hand is broken. Can't ride for another 2 weeks. Bike has FMF can on it. Any other suggestions on getting the most from this bike??

It's a TE engine actually. It has the dual butterfly throttle body and a TE head and cams. It's a good platform for desert racing, where as the TC is really designed for motocross type power.

Yes but the TXC I rode was a lot faster stock than my TE. They are way more uncorked. My TE is a rocket now.
