• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Finally Joined The Fold - New Te630. Need Setup Advise

Kit so far:

* Acerbis hand guards
* Bash Plate B&B
* Husky Luggage rack
* Husky rear bag (thanks to MotoXoitica)
* PU kit (thanks to MotoXoitica)
* Forma Adventure Boots (expensive but the business)
* Changed tyres to Dunlops, a bit more road (not sure if I should have stayed with the originals).

But what next... Husky enduro pants?

Nice bit of kit!!

That Husky Luggage Rack is nice.......but nobody has them! Back ordered! :(

Anybody know where I can get additional fuel tank plastics?? I like the SM-630 flat black and red, would be cool to change out the colors for fall..... as silly as that sounds!! I feel like I own a Ducati Monster, wanting to dress it up with different plastics!! :p

MotoXotica sent mine this week (bag) send them an email, they even delivered to Oz. In the Australian magazine Trailzone, their long term project bike is a TE 630 and the guys have just fitted a 25 litre Safari tank also fits 610 (normal tank size 12 litres) $730.00 Aus. slightly off topic.

Note to self must read message more carefully, yes the rack (not the bag) is really good quality (Husky one) even has pillion grab handles so you remove the originals. Just had a great morning ride in the local State Forest, got lost on the trails as they got smaller and smaller but this bike loves it, rocks, gravel, sand, mud and my lack of skill too. Just love the uphill sections, not fast - nice and steady, great fun, what a bike so glad I choose this over the Tenere 660.

OHHHH, so you got the last one!! He said he's out of those but I could buy the exact same rack from Touratech...........for like $50-$70 more! NOT!!

I did a hundred mile ride yesterday, mostly rough dirt road, some rocky sections, some steep, some considered a jeep trail. Bike performed flawlessly, is easy to ride, dumped it over twice in steep slick section, not impossible to pickup, suspension is fantastic.

Tires are like marbles. Gotta get something better for dirt, either MT21's or D606's. Maybe try Mefos, our local guy has 'em.

The crossover tube that goes from one side of the tank to the other is much easier to remove from the left side, there is a standard hose clamp on the left side instead of the funky crimp-lock band....

I second that.

I did remove and reinstall the tank for some wiring. What is the crossover line for? Balance the fuel load? I closed the valve on the left of course before detaching the tube. The valve on the right was closed. I assume that both valves should be open. Can anyone confirm this?

As far as the 630 emblem detachment, some may be overthinking this. You don't need to completely remove the emblem. Just use your fingers and pull out to detach the lower tab. The top part stays attached by "hinges". You can then access the bolt. When done just push the tab back in with your fingers. "Opening" and "closing" the emblem literally takes one second.

Confirmed on the emblems, that's what I ended up doing as I could tell if I pulled it all the way out I was likely to tear off the top tabs.

The crossover valves should be left open. This lets fuel from one lobe transfer to the other. The FI pump pickup is in the left lobe.

I like the MT21s over the 606s because the front is not directional. When the front starts to wear unevenly (and it will if you ride any decent amount of street), you just flip it around.

I posted this on the huge TE thread on advrider so if you read in both places you can disregard one or the other. I'm 'browneye' over there. :D

So, got a few questions now after a whole 12 miles of road test last night. Was sure nice to take a putt on a new bike after the temps had cooled off. Man, this thing rips!

Gearing - what were they thinking on stock gearing? First is like starting out at 15mph, and 6th is over a hundred. At 65 the thing is just squirelly, feels like it's going to setup a tank slapper at any minute. Probably need to set the rear sag. But seriously, what size is the counter (42rear) and what are you guys doing for 60-65 mph cruising and yet a decent crawl speed for offroad? Did I see 14-44/45 somewhere? The counter must be a 15, no?

***WAIT!! Try Really opening up the bike first like Single or Dual straight through pipes, Open the Air box with drilled holes or Pre filter near the Throttle body opening, and most important put a tuning device such as the JD or comparable unit on and dial in the fuel requirements. After these are done i would venture to say you will have a new out look on how this bike really preforms*** I know i did.

Stability - does it really need a steering damper or will it settle down once the rear sags a bit more? Like I mentioned, at about 60 if you shake the bars a little man it really starts a shimmey. Kinda scary. Just hold'er steady, eh? My Kawasaki doesn't do that. You have to really try to make it shake - the TE not so much - it's really touchy.

***I see that you already touched on the rear sag, this truly makes a great difference at high speed to set your sag up correctly***

also try raising the front folks a tad in the tree. this helps a little also.

Wheels - there are holes drilled but no rimlocks. WTF?? Looks like there's a heavy rubber rim-strip with a tit that pokes thru the rim. And no balance weights. Hmmm... Drill for opposing rim locks to keep balance? Static balance them? Wasn't an issue, but curious what others are doing.

***rim locks are inexpensive if that is a option u would like, balancing should not be to needed unless u really feel bad vibration from the wheels***

Seat - has that uncomfortable slope forward, and the seat firms up right where you would want to slide back a bit. I can see it's going to need some seat work. Fairly plush though, certainly more than my KTM.

***it looks like people have posted about seat concepts. this is the seat i have on mine. i really must say this is pretty much a must for the money and comfort.***

ECU - so my dealer has been fined by the local epa nazi's and won't do ecu tuning any more. First, does it need to be tuned as is (it runs perfectly) and second, if it does how do I get it done? What is iBeat and is it a program and a cable for a laptop that I can buy?

***JD Tuner or unit like it. really not much to say here except that it WORKS!! and its cheap :)***

Exhaust - exhaust note is nice but a little quiet. Has anyone de-cat'd them and opened up the internals? And Bill's pipe mod sounds like a great way to go, will contact them directly. What's up with FMF??? A Q4 for my katoom is like $250. Same muffler for a TE is $650 to $750????? What are they thinking???? I suppose a full Leo-V is like $1500 eh?

***now in my opinion its really up to preference on this one and how much u wanna spend. also if u live in US a sparky should probably be something on the list of what to look for in a Exhaust. i personally have the FMF Q4 and it works really well fit and finish are really nice and it sounds great. my friend has the TI single Leo, also a great set up. so pretty much anything to get rid of the cats in the stock mufflers and if you like to save a few LBs then it really up to you cause the power difference once the cats are removed would probably not be sufficient enough to make u choose one pipe over the other. weight and looks, sound PRICE TAG i think are the big thing for the 630.***

Canister vacuum line to the intake - For plugging the brass nipple on the cylinder, do I need something special or just a rubber nipple cap? Does it need to be heat proof? Does it need a clamp?

***i see u have this figured out :)***

Skidplate - Any comments on the Hyde one? Are they durable enough more as a rock guard and less so as a bash-plate? The former would be sufficient for me, but curious on opinions. The factory one is like $175 and backordered. I think George's is even more. Ricochet is $90, Hyde $103. Touratech has one but I bet it's $275. I'm leaning to a Hyde polymer one.

***I got uptite... it works, but im sure there are a few that do the same shit hehe***

The things i wish someone told me right off the bat of buying mine lol :) I hope a few things can be had from my experience with the 630 !

Need some help! Not sure if I got a very lonely skit plate or a defective one?? My Uptite skit plat is literally up against my engine!! (Please see the attached photo) Is this normal?? I haven't even started tightening everything down knowing I'll have to take it off and do some bending.

Nobody's complained about this before so I think I have a screwy one.

Got some pics of the mounting points?

Mine is pretty close, but not touching:

If the mounting points look normal, I'd just bend that wing out slightly to give you some clearance.

Try to make it work. The OE Husky plate doesn't protect the sides of the engine as well as the Uptite one. I wish I would have known that earlier!

Much help, thank you. After a month and a half with the bike and 500 miles all of these things have been cleared up. I've added my comments in red.

I installed a 14T counter immediately and it works really well. First is low enough for trailing and the bike cruises 72mph at 5K rpm. Over 75 it just feels a little squirelly with dualsport tires.

Stability - does it really need a steering damper or will it settle down once the rear sags a bit more? Like I mentioned, at about 60 if you shake the bars a little man it really starts a shimmey. You mean lowering the tubes in the tripleclamp? Lowering the rear and raising the front increases rake lending to high speed stability. I have set the sag and that helped immensely, have not messed with the forks.

I will probably install two rimlocks on my first tire change. Currently balance is not a problem. My buddy with a 310 has the tubliss system and it's pretty out of balance, he gets a good bounce going over 50.

I met those folks up in Kennedy Meadows a few weeks ago at the ADVRider rally up there. Unforutunately they left before I could stop over to their trailer and try out the seat they had there for the 630. I was bummed. The seat is a bitch though, guess I'll have to pop for the SC seat.

ECU - so my dealer has been fined by the local epa nazi's and won't do ecu tuning any more. First, does it need to be tuned as is (it runs perfectly) and second, if it does how do I get it done? What is iBeat and is it a program and a cable for a laptop that I can buy?

So I've read here. Seems to be the ticket although mine runs really clean from start to over six grand. I'm still holding it back a bit 'till I get just a few more miles on it. I think it hit 6500 last ride. The thing really winds up and things start going by real fast.

I de-cat'd mine, removed the stainless baffle, and ran perforated SS pipe wrapped in glass with the sparky end cap. It's straight through now except for the sparky. I'm really happy with it, a nice mid power bump and more on top than I can use. And it's still as quiet as stock. Runs a lot cooler now too.

I got the hyde one, works really well. Did a hundred miles of rocky roads last weekend and heard quite a few clunks and bangs. I see there are at least a couple of nice gouges in the bottom of it. I'm darn glad I put it on there!

The things i wish someone told me right off the bat of buying mine lol :) I hope a few things can be had from my experience with the 630 !

Absolutely love the bike. It's surprisingly nimble on trails, not too hard to pickup, and goes like stink. Handling is excellent, suspension is everything I could need for a DS. Now I'm trying to decide between Dirtbagz panniers or a Giant Loop Coyote.

The project bike in Trailzone swap the Husky one for a B&B bash plate which is what I have,

I'd contact George. He'll make it right. My guess is that he'll just tell you to bend it outward some, though. His skidplate is pretty tough; you aren't going to hurt it.

Did you try snug up the bolts? Push the plate up from the bottom, make sure the front is snug against the frame and it is still touching? If I remember right mine was like that until I got everything tight. I might have wiggled it a bit, but it's like 1/16-1/8 inch from the engine.

Yeah, I got it all put together and it was still touching......no worries. I did a little bending here and there and now have it all set!! Here's a picture from the bottom of it..........she was tired after riding a bit at Metcalf?!

EXACTLY what I discovered yesterday for myself! It's a fantastic bike!!

I'm a relatively new dirt bike rider, not one to jump or intentionally find a rock garden but all I seemed to do yesterday was exactly that, climb rocks and jump!! I've never in my life jumped as high as I did yesterday!! I'm sure to other experienced riders a foot or two is nothing, but for me.......OMG!!!

I did the power up and the 14 t counter sprocket some time ago and, as widely reported, it greatly improved performance. That and the actual break in. Recently, when cleaning the air filter I decided to remove the Labyrinth air box baffle as many have done. Maybe I have a vivid imagination, but that seemed to give the bike an additional substantial performance boost.
