• Husqvarna Motorcycles Made In Sweden - About 1988 and older

  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Finding TDC

And Change the Sparkplug!
Excellent recommendation. In 1978 I had a plug that showed good spark when grounded outside the head but my 390 wouldn't start with the plug installed. Finally tried a new plug and the bike fired up.

Also, Vinskord makes a good recommendation. I have one of those spark checkers at the bottom of my toolbox.

Something else to check if you haven't already is the spark arrestor. Making sure these "cones with holes" are clear is essential for the engine to breath. I've never heard of a plugged one causing a starting issue by itself but I imagine it could add to the issue even in a small way. Just a thought.

Jon Check all the wiring again.
Disconnect the Kill button and isolate it.
Also pull the front motor mount and clean to shiny the frame and mounting plate. Might not be a good path to ground.
Re torque the head to see if compression comes up some. And Change the Sparkplug!
When I get to the Shop I'll look for the install directions and post up some pics of mine.
Maybe we can see a difference.
Never easy diagnosing on the internet!
All wiring checks out.
I was very particular when reassembling to make sure the coil and engine mount contact points were shiny and bare metal.
Checked engine and coil to frame and each other with an ohm meter and I have continuity.
Re- torqued head and no increase in compression.
New spark plug but no change. And piston does not hit the bottom of the spark plug.
I have a VAPE 7152799AC since I have a 390WR with light, however my VAPE instructions are very similar to yours.

I think my next step is to do a leak down test (I’m awaiting the pressure gauge from Klemm Vintage). If the pressure test comes out okay, then I plan on measuring the piston and cylinder.

Lastly, I agree that diagnosing via the internet is difficult, but everyone has been very helpful. Thanks so much!
