• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

First casualty, needs some help

My 610 ejected one of its heat shield bolts along the way :bonk:
So where can I find those bolts, anywhere special or my local automotive store aka NAPA ?

Take them off (LOL) I ended up making a shield for my leg but the rest were not necessary. Some were I also saw some carbon fiber shields that looked great. As for finding bolts I would bet a fastener supply house would have a metric allen bolt that would look the same or very close.

They are just regular metric bolts. Nothing fancy. Local stores should have something suitable. Take out the other one for an example. If you can only find longer ones, use a hacksaw to cut it shorter.

The same one i lost on my 610te--Luckily i had a Arrow pipe fitted and could take the one from the heat shield on my original exhaust off to replace it--Making carbon fibre heat shields for my bike and will fit stainnless button cap bolts in later--

I doubt you'll be able to find a decent replacement at NAPA. If you lost the whole thing then you should go to a place that specializes in metal fasteners and find one that matches the rest.

If you still have the metal clip that the bolt threads into then you can use one of spare bolts from the "smogectomy" that most of us perform. That's how I fixed mine except I also used a felt washer between the two shields to keep the thing from rattling.

Thanks for the reply's guys
Very helpful, I’ll try to find it in the local stores and cut it if I need to

Flying TC; you scared me a bit, talking about losing the whole thing and if I still have the clip…
So I took the front part down to see what did I lost and what do I still have

It turns out the clip is on the front bolt and it doesn’t seem like you can lose it but just to be on the safe side I’ll just leave that part down till I find a bolt
Thanks again folks

I ended up just removing the front shield and the mount on the pipe all together as it really isn't needed. Plus, if you ride anything really tight with alot of brush it just catches it all and trys to rip off anyway. I just ordered the OEM screws from Halls, had them in a couple of days.
FWIW, the only way I could get the shields to stay tight was to use a "star" type locking washer under the allen cap screw. DO NOT try and tighten the heck out of them as they seem to be made of butter and can round out really easy. (guess how I figured that out) :banghead:

cheers,

Mike

Muddy, my memory is a little fuzzy sometimes. :excuseme:

I did find the right sized factory bolt in my spare parts box. It's a left over from when I replaced my factory pipe. Let me know if you want it and if it's something I can mail to you.

If you don't cut it to the right length you'll get an irritating exhaust buzz.
