• Hi everyone,

    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

    Thanks for your patience and support!

Fitting Strada Wheels To Terra

MotocycleWriter

Husqvarna
AA Class
I've found a set of Strada wheels that I want to use for street riding. I'll be keeping the Terra wheels for dirt. Kiwiape has a way to compensate for the tone-ring problem and provide an accurate speedo measurement so I know what to do there. Are there any other differences in the wheels I need to be aware of as regards installation? I'm guessing same axles, spacers, brake discs, brake spacing, etc. What about the sprocket carrier and sprocket? Do I want to go with a slightly smaller rear sprocket?

Everything from one fits or bolts on the other.

If you want a quick swap you will want each set to have its own brake discs.
I hated swapping the discs.

I only have the original cush hub/sprocket carrier, I don't have 2 sets.
While in theory changing the gearing with the rear might seem like the thing to do, I keep the same rear sprocket.
I find chains are much more tolerant to counter-shaft swapping than rear sprocket swapping as the rear sprocket and chain tend to wear into each-other.

I run one tooth higher on the front/counter-shaft sprocket when I want to keep the same basic gearing when running the 17 rear.

That all makes sense. The discs ain't cheap (currently $286 on AOMC) so I'll be a' swappin' until I can find some used ones. Or some cheaper ones. Where's the best place to get the countershaft sprockets? I'm assuming they are the same as the pre-2-cylinder F650GS bikes. Might get a Kuba-link and drop the front end an inch. Would make a much more comfortable town bike.

It just occurred to me that I have no baseline for the tires! These wheels are tubeless, aren't they? What size tires work well on these rims? I've heard good things about Shinko 705. Our Terra/Stradas have some stability issues. Is there any consensus on what tires provide good Strada stability? I have heard the 705s can be a bit wobbly.

I've run the stock Tourance, Pirelli Rally Cross, Mitas E-09, shinko 804/805 and couple motocross tyres on the strada rims.
I did have a little wobble with the front rally cross but after scrubbing in and pressure adjustment all was well.
All those tyres could easily do 160 without a hit of any instability.

Yea the discs are expensive OEM new.
They are the same as the BMW so there are some less expensive aftermarket options.
I bought mine used off a low mile crashed BMW via ebay.

I am not a sprocket snob, I just buy JT sprockets from whom ever on the web has the best price.
I have 15, 16 & 17 tooth front sprockets that I swap between.
My last ones I bought were via Amazon. Just search for the JT part numbers for the tooth number you want.
Front = JT402-XX or JT402.XX
Rear = JTR5-XX or JTR5.XX

Hell yea they are tubeless, that is the major reason I run them.
I have been running the Full Bore M40 Radials in the old ADV standard 110/80-19 & 150/70-17 sizes.
I think the Strada stock sizes are 110/80-19 & 140/80-17
The Full Bores are similar to the Shinko 705's

I like them a lot as an all around tire with mostly road use.
They were a bit wobbly though at speeds over 70 MPH for the first several hundred miles.

I've had very good performance with Mitas E-07s on my Strada in addition to the stock Tourances.
